Hi all
I'm a SAHP and although in my village we have two church playgroups, they really aren't suitable for non movers or under ones. We have no other provision for new parents, it's a trek to get to the nearest centre to weigh your baby too.
Before I stayed at home I managed a nursery and I feel that I really want to do something within our community. When my lo was first born I was lucky enough to have two friends with babies born within days of each other, I understand this isn't the case for many.
I joined a baby group for my lo but also for me to make new friends but it was so structured you didn't have a chance to get a conversation going.
I'd really like to start an informal baby group, purely contribution based for refreshments and a biscuit. A place for babies to explore but also for parents and carers to meet, chat, cry, drink a hot tea etc. I know at times a group like that would really of been helpful, I just have no idea where to start?
I'm thinking of approaching the current play groups and ask for advise as that would be my venue of choice but in regards to equipment and policies any information or just general feelings about the group would be great, thank you.

We started one at our Church 3 years ago.
With the fact you've already got a playgroup there, you're streets ahead. Smile. Definitely approach them. They may well support you with all the structure, but if not, they will at least be able to both put you in touch with the right people re hiring the room and would possibly be able to advertise it once you are able to open.

Also get in touch with CIASS at your local authority (just google CIASS and where you live). They have departments that support Stay and Play groups and will be able to help you with all your questions.

If the playgroups won't let you use / don't have toys for the right age group (though keep in mind many with babies might also have an older (toddler) sibling in tow) - there are likely to be start up grants available.

Also talk to your local Children's Centre for further advice and signposting.

Hi
I'm just starting one up too linked with the local church so am using the church hall.
I'm asking locals for toy donations , insurance is through church . Will be donation based. As pp said there will be grants ,I'm I'm different country so is won't be the same .
However when was in the UK is went to a group for babies and non movers ,were we used part of a pub in the morning , we had some mats and a few toys and meant parents could chat etc. Other way is can get people to bring own toys .
Another place you could approach is local libary ,I attend a group there with babies and toddlers and we just meet and chat ,we have use of the kids part of the libary so suitable for all ages .
Social media great place to advertise too
