Is it important to be career minded?

I had my son just under a year ago and decided to give up my job so I could stay at home with him and my partners wage cover us.
I am happy at home with him but I look at my friends who have babies the same age who are doing really well in their careers and it makes me feel a bit.. useless?
I’ve never really known what I wanted to do for a career and mostly just worked for the money. I almost feel like people look down on me for staying at home and that I’m less of a person(?) for not having a career.

A marriage certificate is more important than all the 'dressing up'. Nothing worse than starting married life in debt. It's all showing off in the end and a piss up for the relatives!

OOPS... Ignore the marriage post. Wrong thread!

You do not have to be "career-minded" - being a parent is an entirely valid and important career. I'll bet you anything that your career absorbed friends look at you and feel envious sometimes. Be proud of your choice to stay at home and to devote yourself to a career in caring for your children.

There is plenty of time for you - I changed career at the age of 50, and all was well.

Enjoy your children!

Don’t worry what anyone else thinks of you.
But will you want to stay at home long term? After the kids are grown?
Because if not then now is a great time to think about home study and finding my something you’re really into.
