The dogs are still asleep when you leave the house

You scare pheasants roosting on fence posts and tiny birds drinking from puddles as you walk along.

Lazy geldings. There is always one up standing guard but they rest of them are out for the count :)

Oh I have a nervy mare in my care. She’s the eyes and ears for the herd.

In the winter, I like being the first person to break the ice on the puddles on our lane.

yes I love that too

it kind of creaks before you break it

Sheep start kicking the feeder trough.....

DingDongDell70 · 19/09/2024 06:57

All the village birds are congregating in the middle of the main road. Then they just stare at you and don’t move when you’re trying to drive through to get to work at 05:30.

SuePreemly · 19/09/2024 06:59

There's a Little Owl sitting on a fence post giving you it's judgemental stare.

PurBal · 19/09/2024 07:04

We live rurally and I get up at 530 most days, but nothing lovely and romantic to report, just 2 preschoolers!

ScottBakula · 19/09/2024 07:14

At the stables that I worked at they had sensors that would turn all the yard lights on when when we approached the gate and all the horses would be up and waiting gor breakfast.
It broke at one point and was really surprised at how many of the horses were fast asleep when we got there.

I always felt sorry for them when it was fixed , I'd hate to be woken up suddenly by bright lights. So after a while we change the bulbs to dimmer ones and change the angle so they shone away from the stables. = sleepy horses.

I live on the edge of town and run out into the country on mornings when it’s still light enough. I love all the birds scurrying around and once I came across a deer standing right in the middle of the road! Had to pause my run and wait for it to move on of its own accord, but it was lovely to watch.

Ratfinkstinkypink · 19/09/2024 07:17

You go out to close the gate at dusk and disturb the pheasants roosting in the trees across the lane.

You go out to let the chickens out and overhear the conversation of two local tawny owls.

The peace is broken by deer barking.

I have to be up at 5.15 every morning to get to work so I don’t have the pleasure of a meander through fields and what not but driving over the hill towards the nearest town I get to see the most cracking sunrises. It’s just a shame I can’t stop to enjoy them!

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 19/09/2024 07:23

At this time of year, it’s a relief that the cockerels start waking up later and later!

TheDandyLion · 19/09/2024 08:09

Open the front door and either walk in or above the clouds.

Needanadultgapyear · 19/09/2024 08:11

I grew up on a farm and then lived for 23 years in towns and villages. 3 years ago we moved rurally my London boy husband is getting used to it, but I love the rural noise song birds, owls at night and hearing the the cuckoo in spring.

My favourite morning sight is the squirrel using our fence for his commute. He lives in willow tree, drops on to the fence runs along it across the top of our gate round the edge of the property to reach a cobnut tree.

You walk through cobwebs between the trees because you’re the first to walk that path this morning!

My pony still looks at cobwebs spread across heather or gorse in amazement. It is one of the things that I love seeing in the early morning light as her reaction to it is so comical.

Similarly: when I'm on an early shift my alarm goes off at 5.30am (as you can tell, today I'm on a lateSmile). My bedroom window is south facing, but if there's a pinky orange tinge to the sky I walk to the balcony at the east-facing end of the house & spend a couple of minutes watching the sun rise.

You come across the barn owl returning from his nights hunting

(You have to zoom to see the owl in the pic but it is there)

I see deer in the fields on my morning runs

Dolliesdisasterousdayout · 19/09/2024 08:43

It feels like you are the only person awake in the world. No sounds, no lights, no movement.

Ghilliegums · 19/09/2024 08:45

You interrupt the horses grazing, rather than seeing them already standing by the gate.

OnlyFrench · 19/09/2024 08:52

All I could see of the next village (on a hilltop) was the church spire peeking through the mist

HarrietJonesFlydaleNorth · 19/09/2024 08:56

I love the feeling of time spanning back through the generations of people who would have also been up early in this place at this time of morning.
Before any sounds of industry start up, or phones or cars, you can really feel the souls of the people who would have been living here 100/200/400 years ago.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 19/09/2024 08:57

You have to wait for the sheep to get up off the road. Not sure why they think it’s a comfortable bed…

Tatiepot · 19/09/2024 09:17

Same here @Twoshoesnewshoes …the tarmac is warmer than the grass, so they are reluctant to get out of bed, same as us with a warm duvet!

Lesina · 19/09/2024 06:33

That you wake the horses up when you do a morning field check… they snore 😂

I was just about to say the same thing! My youngster grumbles at me like Harry Enfield's "Kevin" because I disturbed her 😂

Oh yes! Sheep love a good warm road. Tarmac is a great heat battery after some sunshine has been on it. 😁
