Sorry but housing association properties shouldn’t be sold off.

TizerorFizz · 07/08/2024 11:13

Asked whom? The date the property became a housing association property will matter. The rules are the same for all but read the Government rules. 31 March 1997 is a key date. Shame you want to stop another family getting your house though.

No this is correct, they are called rural exception areas.

Lakes24 · 07/08/2024 11:14

Yes as I say, it should be one rule for everyone. The house is quite old they just said they don’t sell rural properties only houses in cities (housing officer)

You can't buy your house but they have to offer you another property to purchase instead with the same discount.

They are correct. It’s essentially down to the permission they were given to build on those areas, look up Rural Exception Sites and you will see the info.

It’s because those houses were allowed to be built only to provide affordable housing for local people. It applies to Shared Ownership in those areas as well. You cannot buy the home because it was always intended and planned to be council basically.

Rural HA properties should be kept available to allow those with a strong local connection to remain living there, not to facilitate people making money by buying a property cheaply and selling it on at full unaffordable market price.

So should the city ones!
