Shall I move there or somewhere else as houses very reasonable there but don't know area.
Currently live in Buckinghamshire but house too small for me and two kids and Wisbech prices cheap on searching internet.
Advice would be good.

Crime rate?
Things to do?
Regrets/positives?

Peterborough is a whole different kettle of fish. There is a vast wealth divide, so very rich and very poor. But amazing diversity and I love interacting with people from all the different cultures. Wonderful food!

Three years ago my friend was robbed at knifepoint, in broad daylight, on her driveway! They took her laptop and handbag. She moved away from Wisbech a few months later.

I'm afraid that IMHO you'd need to go further South towards Ely and St Ives to find any nice places in the Fens and then the prices will be more.

@countrygirl99 I think I know the one you mean! On the back road to Somersham?

When I said it wasn't "too bad", that's still a long way from "quite nice".

That's the one

Never many cars in the car park. I've often wondered if it's a front for all the weed farms the police keep finding.

That would explain a lot because they never have much in the way of plants.

I've met quite a few people who moved out of London to the Fens seemingly without doing much research because of the house prices. They had a pretty big culture shock.
It's an acquired taste the Fens I'd say. It has all the disadvantages of being very rural (driving essential, and it's a long way to access healthcare, education, culture) without any chocolate box prettiness.
I am probably biased as I am originally from rural Mid Wales and I just do not find the flatness of the Fens attractive. Locals have tried to persuade me that it has its own charm with the big skies and epic sunsets but give me some rolling hills any day.

Ely is nice. Good schools and reasonable shops.

Most of the fens is pretty rural, it's cheap for a reason - few facilities.

I like it out here but I like the skies and the swimming in the rivers.

There's a reason houses are cheap.in Wisbech!

I would much rather live in Peterborough than Wisbech, but if you can stretch to it, Ely is a better bet.

Wisbech is awful OP...which is why it's cheap! There are some lovely areas nearby but not Wisbech (or Peterborough as suggested upthread...which is possibly even worse!)

I live in the Fens and can happily suggest some lovely areas if you have a budget in mind.

This. Could not agree with twentysevendresses more!

ThePure · 18/05/2024 19:38

I would be happy to live in/ around Ely and the area north of Huntingdon (not actual Huntingdon) but probably not much further out than that.

ThePure · 18/05/2024 19:39

Either way it is going to be hugely hugely different to Buckinghamshire so definitely do come and stay for a bit before you commit.
