Moving to Cirencester/Stroud area

I am planning to put my house on the market and move to the Cirencester area this year. I’ve only been to Cirencester once but have done a lot of research. Other areas I am considering are Nailsworth , Stroud area or possibly Painswick. I’m looking for a three or four bedroom house with sizeable garden , somewhere with lots going on but which also has a rural feel . Good public transport or close to a train station if possible, but I know this is hard to find. Other options are villages surrounding Bath.

I currently live in a city and feel quite isolated . I’m sick of the traffic and pollution and the unfriendliness. Moving to be closer to family and for a different lifestyle and better weather !

Any advice welcome. Budget is up to £800,000.

Nailsworth is lovely, near enough to the station and really picturesque.
I grew up in Cirencester and that’s lovely too

Following, as we are also planning to move to the Cirencester or Stroud area. We're relocating from the US this summer.

Just visited Cirencester. It’s a lovely town but can’t see myself living there really. Concentrating on other areas.

Know the Cirencester market very well. What would you like to know? What ages are your children (if you have them)?

800K is a good budget but many of the houses in that price range are new build - is that what you are after?

Children are adults so that’s not a factor . I think we’re looking more at Nailsworth/Painswick now. Not keen on new builds and looking for something with character so know it’s a big ask.
Im a bit concerned there won’t be enough to do in either of those places. Stroud has a more going on but I prefer Randwick area and houses there are few and far between.
Would rather not go up to £800,000 if possible.

The real problem is we don’t want to sell and then find we have to go into rental and wait ages to find anything whilst wasting money . Been there, done that. It nearly killed me.

Another vote for Nailsworth. It’s delightful.

Painswick is lovely, and lots of lovely walks on the doorstep. Tetbury also very lovely, some nice shops there and bars/hotels. Avening not far from Tetbury. Woodchester away from the main road. Sheepscombe a lovely village. Cirencester has some lovely areas but some equally rough ones and it's sadly becoming a giant ring road with copious identikit housing estates.

My sister in law lives in Stroud and it just never appeals to me at all!

No worries. Personally I find Painswick really pretty but you’re likely to get more bang for buck in Nailsworth. But either are good choices

Hi @MumboJumbling @lalagrif , we’re currently selling our property in a village called Randwick which is between Stroud and Painswick, it’s listed for £825,000 and although not advertised as chain free we would personally be happy to go into rental.

It is a 4 bed detached Old School House so has a lot of character and a 0.3 acre garden with some incredible views. We have spent the past 7 years lovingly restoring it and it’s currently on the market with AJ Estate Agents of Gloucestershire but please feel free to contact me directly.

It’s in the centre of the village so although you get the benefits of rural fresh air and views there is a lot going on if you do like to get involved. There is bell ringing on Monday's ( we usually enjoy listening form the garden with a glass of wine,) flower arranging, film nights, a thriving WI a monthly coffee morning and an Ofsted outstanding school all within 100m of the house with a great pub just up the hill too!

Sophie, your house is gorgeous! I wish we were in a position to buy, but we’ve been in the US for the past 20 years and have no UK credit history. We’ll be renting for the first year or two.
