How to go about relocating!

Hi ☺️
So I currently live in the the north west of England with my partner and 2 children. We own our own home and the mortgage is currently just in my name.

We are looking to relocate to North Wales. My partner would have to get the mortgage in his name as I only work 2 days now and wouldn't earn enough to get one.

So I wasn't sure in what order to do everything! My partner would need to leave his current job when we move but obviously needs 3 months employment to get a mortgage. I'm presuming he wouldn't get a mortgage on a job he's going to leave?! So he'd need to be working in Wales 3 months before we get a mortgage is that right?

My mum and dad have offered for me and the kids to move into their house, sell our house and my partner would get a new job in Wales work there for 3 months then get a mortgage. My concern is how long he'd be away from us and the kids for 🥺 it's only about an hour and 45 mins away but still feels a lot for what would probably end up being about 6 months. Also my daughter is due to start reception in September so that's another thing to think about.

I'd be interested to get thought and advice about how to go about this.

What order did you do things in if you relocated?

How long did the whole process take?

Thank you so much.

We relocated about 2 hours away last year. My husband got his new job first and mostly worked from home, only commuting once a week or fortnight. He was in this new job for long enough to get the mortgage sorted. I worked for a large company that wrote me a letter stating that I would be transferring my job when we moved. Those factors made it possible to get a mortgage.
I think that if either of these things weren't possible, we would have had to sell the house, move and rent and then buy when we were settled. To be honest, with two jobs to move and two school aged children, I don't think we would have been able to move without that stability, it's hard enough to coordinate without having to move twice!
The process from putting the house on the market to moving in took 11 months. It was a challenging year going backwards and forwards, but happy now!

Rent first while you sell the house. Then buy when you can get a mortgage you want.

I've relocated a few times and think renting first is always best, even with kids, gets the better home in the end.
