Norfolk or East Sussex

Relocating with my husband and 4 children all under 10. Where will be the best place to move out of Norfolk or East Sussex?
We need beach access, countryside and space, although we also need good schools, sports clubs and lots of opportunities for the children. I need warmer and drier than up North 😂
We have a good budget for a family home so not too worried about cost of houses.
Thanks :)

East Sussex has more to do and you can get to other places including London easily.

Downside is it's the stockbroker belt and that means a lot of self important men driving around in Teslas.

Norfolk has fewer of them and more beautiful scenery BUT is bloody miles away from everywhere.

warmer weather in east sussex
plenty of other people moving to east sussex though

I live in East Sussex and I hate it, I have found it unfriendly, unwelcoming and a bit odd. I also hate the fireworks obsession and the lack of diversity. It might be just my village but it’s full of bigots who hate anyone who has not lived there for fifty years. Namechanged to post this.

The fireworks! I grew up in East Sussex and this made me chuckle.

I now live in East Anglia. I prefer it here - people have said there's more to do in Sussex but I actually think, with the exception of a few places like Lewes, a lot of the towns, villages are quite boring. Pretty but boring.

Both areas have crap buts and nice posher bits. Massively depends on your budget. North Norfolk is demographically old. But the actual coast, Bexhill, Eastbourne etc in Sussex is a bit grotty. Norwich is a great city, massively underrated, cheapish and easy to get to the sea. Equivalent places in Sussex are very pricey and not as creative or friendly, imo.

Easier access to London from Sussex of course.

If you hate the bigots and lack of diversity in East Sussex then you'd definitely hate Norfolk! It's known for it!!!!

I’ve lived in both places. Originally from London. I prefer Norfolk, but we live on the Suffolk/ Norfolk border rather than north Norfolk which is more remote and less to do. Where we live it’s easier to get to London for a day out - direct train 1.20 hours - to Southwold for a posh seaside, Yarmouth for a more traditional kiss me quick type seaside and all sorts of countryside. Then you have Norwich for a main shopping centre. I really love it. But - there isn’t much to do for children as they get older. My dc are 11 and 20 and my eldest couldn’t wait to go off to university in Nottingham as she thinks where we live is soooooo boring and the transport links are so awful it’s impossible to get anywhere without driving really. Schools are generally good but the best are over subscribed, as it is everywhere else. My youngest has autism and attends a specialist school and these are very few and far between.

I did laugh at this… unfortunately there is a lot of truth in this although no one originally from Norfolk tends to admit it!

I really like Bexhill, I think more people have moved there in the last few years, it’s very friendly. I like Norwich too, I think your area now is probably better for youngsters.

It’s not much fun if you are farming and they do it right next to your land. The bonfire society have not been pleasant to deal with. You are expected to move all your animals or put up with it.

In my experience, the biggest bigots in my part of Norfolk are the Essex incomers. They are the ones flying massive England or Union Jack flags (often upside down), spouting right-wing views and stating that they moved here to escape the immigrants who are “taking over” where they moved from. The Norfolk locals tend to be far more tolerant of all types of people, although are being affected by house price inflation due to people from the south east moving here - both those described above and retirees, with the two groups often overlapping.

If any of your children might need extra help at school at any point I would avoid east Sussex
