Relocation to the south west- Uffculme area

Hi,
I am seriously thinking about relocating (with husband and children) to the south west. I grew up North Somerset but don't want to live in the sedgemoor area. Bridgwater etc is not good. I thought that Devon/Somerset might be good, but also worried that my children will hate it. One is too young to know but the eldest is approaching secondary school age. Are there clubs and things for her to do? If you live in and around Uffculme, where do you tend to travel for supermarkets etc.

Does it have to be Devon? How about a little further north? Clevedon is lovely. Or Wells? Around the Churchill area is nice too. Some good schools. Yes Weston is not great but some places around e.g. Sand Bay are. Portishead.

Just realised I didn't answer some of your questions OP.
So in terms of supermarkets, I go to Taunton (Aldi & Sainsbury's personally, but there is also Asda, Tesco, Lidl & Morrisons) but Wellington has Waitrose, a tiny Coop & tiny Asda, as well as a soon to open Lidl. Tiverton is the next nearest place with Tesco, Morrisons & Lidl; Cullompton has Tesco & Aldi.
Wellington has a sports centre which has several clubs (swimming, trampolining, gymnastics etc); there are also lots of local clubs including gymnastics, trampolining, horse riding, rugby, football, tennis, archery, scouts/brownies; ballet, cricket etc. Tiverton also has a sports centre with a great learners pool.
we'll soon be getting reduced bus fares into Taunton, but for many things you will need a car or at least it makes it much easier/quicker.
It will be a different lifestyle to that which you've had but it's lovely down here.

@DorritLittle not North Somerset. I just can't for various reasons. I find it a bit bleak. But maybe this thread has made me realise I'm not ready to return to the West Country despite spending 22 years of my life there! If I didn't have children then I think I probably would and that's the irony. I want to return so they have the carefree rural life I had but times have changed and I worry I would dampen their horizons but perhaps that's me being a silly worrier.

@walkinthewoodstoday I am from the West Country too and do know what you mean.

I have looked at moving back too. For me the answer was somewhere like Trowbridge (decent trainline, near a nice city, decent schools, lovely countryside) or the Warminster area but I have not made the move yet. My kids are not little and settled in their schools. It's tricky.

Trowbridgebdoes look a great location but I suppose with that means it's more expensive too.

Uffculme school is a horrible school, just look at the website Schoolparrot. The whole Uffculme area isnt nice, my family live near and they say the police are always up there

We moved to a good size town in Dorset, from London, when I was 10 and I cannot over-state how grateful I am that my parents chose a town location. We could go into town with friends from year 7 onwards, get the bus to bigger towns, and not need to ask for lifts. Do consider how they will be living as teenagers. I did find it insular though, and will also admit I left at 18 and never lived there again...
