Cheap home security options?

Hey,
I'm not completely rural where I stay, however because of my homes isolation I thought this would be best place to post.
My home has 2 close neighbours, however I'm furthest away from road, so there is no reason for anyone to be near my house unless they were visiting me. My previous house was a mid terrace, so I was used to lots of passer bys etc, this didn't bother Me, however now on my own I can't stop thinking I'm hearing things outside. I go check but nothings there, so I was hoping of setting up some outside cameras, in the hope of putting my mind at ease and stop the contact checking out windows 🤦🏻‍♀️
Any help is greatly appreciated x

I'm a stickler for security - but I wouldn't normally go with cheap! If you want the appearance of cameras to deter people, get some Amazon cheapies (under £30) and put them on your windows internally pointing outward.

Do you have a house alarm? CCTV signs? Flood lights?

Similar to you but a bit more rural by the sound of it - we've got flood lights that are motion activated covering the front, side accesses and full garden, along with an alarm (including sensors on all external doors / windows), internal movement sensors in all downstairs rooms, corridors and all upstairs rooms that could be accessed, along with external and some internal cctv.

Honestly it wasn't cheap, but it's all great quality and gives me peace of mind when home alone (DH travels a lot). Burglars have enough knowledge to know if you've got good or rubbish security, we got told opportunists will be put off by lights / cameras / obvious alarm but burglars after something they've seen or been told about will only be put off by clear security measures that are quality. I can kind of see why, but I'm such an anxious person I would have gone for all the excessive security anyway!!

Looks like your all set up, wish I could afford it all to be done properly.
Tbh I've never had anyone near my house (that I know of) it's more for my own peace of mind, just some cameras I can check if needed, mainly when I'm home alone.

I do have an outside motion sensor light, which gives me more problems than it should. If I'm in my bedroom, the way the traffic light and neighbours light shine it makes it look like me outside lights went off. When I check it's fine, problem is I'm constantly up and down looking out the window it's driving me up the wall.
When I say cheap, I just don't want to be paying crazy money, but also don't want to be wasting money on complete rubbish.

Also maybe best to note I'm in a bungalow so I'm fear is someone just appearing at the window and I'm unable to check who without being seen.

Ring camera and flood light
Simply Safe alarm which you can fit yourself
Both can be operated/monitored from your phone, too

fudfootedfannybangle · 05/07/2022 05:36

Geese. Damned good security.

Have a look at Ajax security. They do brilliant wireless CCTV and intruder alarms. They only need a service once a year so no running costs and can be installed in a few hours.

They connect up your phone so you can see everything at the touch of a button.

Also, flood lights. Have them installed around your property on low sensitivity so they only go on when it’s a person or large animal.

Ring doorbells are good and easy to set up if you get
I have 4 cctv cameras & ring doorbell due a a bay shit ex neighbour cost about 1k 2 years ago but the quality is like watching sky news and had them installed professionally

my neighbour love it because my cameras cover the whole street 😂

you could also put a camera in the window inside the house if you are worried

If you have a gate put a bolt at the bottom or midway Stops anyone leaning over and opening it

motion sensor floodlights really bright ones are good

Dog
Motion sensitive light
Alarm.

I have ring cameras. Total lack of police in rural areas. I have a private road and nothing but fields. If anyone comes down the road it's only my house. Ring camera is the best option as there is the option to put a far loud alarm on by the app.
