Hi, my family is looking to move to Cambridge from London (husband and newborn twins). What is the best area to live in? Budget 1.5 mil for detached house. Looking for a place good for families where we can get a decent sized house (not central Cambridge) but still with restaurants etc and not to rural with a good train link to kings cross.

Contemplating a similar move with young children and wondered if you might have any thoughts to share so far?! We're looking at areas within easy reach of Perse and train station as we want to be largely car free...

Why did you post this in "rural living"? Cambridge isn't rural! You say you don't want to live in central Cambridge, but you want "restaurants etc"... do you want a village with restaurants? (A few villages on the outskirts have nice pub restaurants.) Or do you want to live in Cambridge itself but just not right in the centre?

Will you and/or husband be commuting to Kings Cross by train? If so you'll want to be in walking/cycling distance of a train station on the Kings Cross line. That means (in Cambridge itself) either Cambridge station or Cambridge north.

@AnotherEmma Haha! Although compared to London, OP might have a point! And there were some cows in the meadow behind Kings last time I looked… Are they still there?

Yes there are cows in Cambridge 🤷🏻‍♀️
But if you think Cambridge is rural god forbid you should venture elsewhere in East Anglia!
