No broadband

We are due to move to an idyllic village into our forever home. It’s a longer commute for husband so he has secured more days WFH once we move. We just found out yesterday that the house has no broadband and has never been connected to broadband! The village does have low speed internet though. Is it a nightmare to get house connected? As townies we didn’t even think to check during buying process as assumed everyone has broadband now!!!!

There are quite large rural areas with no broadband still. Is there a satellite broadband provider in your area? (I’m prepared to be laughed at and told you only get broadband through the phone lines now)
Mobile internet through the mobile phone network may work if you are in a flat area.
If there’s no satellite provider, it may be best to opt out of the sale if you can.

My Internet speed is 0.5 megs. We are on the “end” of the line. We are rural but not massively so. Our line is old and corroded! BT/Openreach say that it won’t ever be upgraded.

Luckily our 4G is amazing. You can get unlimited data tariffs and you can also buy 4G internet sims from the likes of EE.

We're rural and have satellite broadband. On the odd occasion that it's flaky, we get by perfectly well on a mobile hotspot, even with 4 people watching Netflix on separate devices. This really doesn't need to be a deal breaker.

I live in the middle of nowhere and like PP, BT aren’t going to replace the line. EE 4G is great though.

Look at 4G. You may be able to get away with BT / EE 4G or you may need a small mast on your house. There are usually grants available via the council if you need equipment. Talk to locals / neighbours you’ll likely find there are a few options available.

Also check for 'line of sight' internet providers - Airband, 'Rural broadband', SWS, or similar.

This is what we have - delivers decent speeds in an area of slow / no BT Broadband and no 3/4G signal.

We've tried satellite broadband and found it to be quite expensive and also has a noticeable delay if you are trying to do things like video chatting.

Look into "line of sight"/microwave broadband. There may be a mast in your local area. We've found it much more cost effective and reliable. The company even managed to bounce the signal off our barn as our house is too low to "see" the mast.

I'd agree with this. BT is rubbish but the mobile signal is really good. It costs 25 quid a month unlimited internet and you can plug a landline phone into the back of the mobile hub. I've given up on having a landline.
