Moving to Peebles

Hi all,
I'm just after some advise/experiences/recommendations please. We're relocating to Scotland some point soon and whilst we had almost decided on Melrose we have come across Peebles and are really keen. We have three dc-7,5 and 3 and whilst primary is important we're looking long term so focusing on secondary too (which is where we came across PHS)
Basically; is Peebles a good option for families? We're moving from South East so keen to know if anyone else has made the move? Obv coming from England are there many others who have made the move from England? I know Melrose etc is fairly peppered with people from England; Is Peebles the same-will the kids be 'welcomed'/find it ok to settle? We're looking at Kingsland Primary (heard lots of good things) any thoughts? I'm a childminder so just wondering if there's demand for that service? Also finally are there a few social opportunities to meet new people as an adult? All really new and I'm a little daunted for my kids mainly so any thoughts very much appreciated. TIA

I lived in the area for a bit, it's a pleasant enough town but not much going on and I found it hard to make friends as everyone already had an established network, having grown up there. I didn't have kids at the time though so maybe if you're able to meet people at the school gates or at play dates or whatever, that might help.
Most people were nice enough but there were also some self appointed "village elders" and NIMBYs who constantly moaned about incomers (the really hated Edinburgh commuters).
Melrose is very pretty but quite snobby.
On the whole I found the Scottish Borders had a bit of a weird vibe, very insular despite being a short distance to Edinburgh.
There are nicer places in Scotland IMO, parts of Perthshire and the areas around Stirling are nice if you want rural but near a city. I suppose it depends on your reasons though, maybe you need to be in a specific area. If you really need to be in the Borders I'd recommend West Linton, it's a village not far from Peebles and also very commutable to Edinburgh.
