Hi ...I'm thinking of moving to Huntingdon area with 2 kids age 10/12 and buying 2/3 bedroom house max budget £240,000
Can anyone please tell me what the area is like for care work , schools and just in general to raise kids and also if there's clubs they could join ie football , swimming etc.....
Also any areas to avoid as I'm not familiar with the area .....
Thanks everyone Smile

The villages surrounding Huntingdon are lovely, quite varied in terms of small and rural or busy with shops. With children your ages I would be looking carefully at the secondary schools. There are three large ones: St Peter’s, St Ivo and Hinchingbrooke all with varying reputations. None particularly great. There are lots of clubs, lots of parks and green space, leisure centres and sports parks. The transport links are good. In terms of care work there is a few care homes and the hospital. I personally wouldn’t live right in Huntingdon but would look at the surrounding areas, st ives, bluntisham, Ramsey, somersham, etc but it depends what the most important thing to you is. If it is school, look carefully. It’s quite hard to get into an out of catchment school here.

Hi, I live in the Huntingdon area. We are quite close to St Ives and love it here. Like PP said there are lovely villages around. Somersham is bigger and has more amenities...Tesco, pharmacy, dr, dentist etc but Earith, Bluntisham, Colne etc are lovely quieter villages. 2 of my DC go to The Abbey College in Ramsey and are both very happy there.

Thank you both for the reply , I'll start looking at surrounding areas Smile

My parent live in Alconbury, Alconbury Weston has a care home. You need to be mindful of flooding in the Alconburys. They are lovely villages with Sawtry being the secondary school but no idea on its current reputation. Sawtry is also a nice large village closer to Peterborough.

I know nothing about Alconbury Weald as new development after I moved away.

We moved to Huntingdon in October 2020 from London, we live In Hinchingbrooke. We love it here, affordable housing, friendly, and well connected, decent town centre. Train to London in 48 mins. DS is 2 and goes to nursery, and will go to Hinchingbrooke School further down the line - the school has been around for 450 years and it looks like something out of Harry Potter! Also has several playfields plus a swimming pool, gymnasium, performing arts centre. The poster above who said it isn't very good needs to have a look at what is on offer in London! The country park in Hinchingbrooke is also incredible with about 3 lakes in it, lots of wildlife etc deer, muntjac, wild rabbits. I take DS down to the lake some days to play and paddle and literally cannot believe we found this place. The council just removed the massive flyover which basically bisected the town - we think that could have been the basis why Huntingdon was historically cheaper - but now it's gone...and the prices haven't caught up yet.
