Alsager/Nantwich villages for younger family?

Hi,

We (27 and husband 31) are looking to move from Hertfordshire to the Alsager area looking for advice on the villages nearby with a sense of community where possible. (Currently living in a village with around 3000 people - happy for smaller)

We visited Alsager which was nice but a little big and busy. We also saw Barthomley which was great and had lots of countryside on the doorstep which is ideal.

Prefer older properties which are upgraded/barn conversions around £400-500k close to good schooling/activities for the kids (5yo & 1yo).

Husband works in Keele and seems like most villages are within the 30 minutes commute.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Danielle

In terms of schools/potential secondary schools where do you want to be?

Staffordshire or Cheshire?

Dbrb · 25/04/2021 16:39

Seems like the areas are in both Cheshire & Staffordshire, not sure if this a issue or not.

I have attached a screenshot to show the area which seems to be ideal. Just so many options.

Not really looking for the secondary school options as a still a fair bit of time

Seems like I can't post the screenshot. Borderlines I would say in between:
Nantwich, Sandbach, Alsager, Eccleshill and Market Drayton

Tarporley or surrounding villages? Or is that too far out?

Dbrb · 25/04/2021 17:17

Little too far, thank you

Audlem is lovely

Second for Audlem. Lovely community.

Dbrb · 25/04/2021 18:47

Audlem is looking good, thank you

Audlem a good choice
Look at Woore and Betley too

Beebumble2 · 03/05/2021 15:14

I had family who lived in Audlem for 40 years. It was great, going to visit them was lovely, the canal, the walks and they were very much part of the village. Won’t say anymore as it’s outing.
Sadly when the Matriarch was the only one left, everyone else had moved. Such fond memories.

bigbluebus · 03/05/2021 15:58

I'd suggest Woore or Audlem. Market Drayton is a town but you could look at Norton in Hales which is not far away and seems to have some sense of community. Audlem is Cheshire - the other 2 suggestions are Shropshire but near the Staffs/Cheshire border and easily commutable to Keele.

AwFeebs · 03/05/2021 16:04

I'm around 3 miles from Audlem. It is nice. Most of Nantwich is alright really. Its a good town.

I'd choose Nantwich over Market Drayton personally.

Thank you all, we popped over and all look lovely.

Only issue now is most of the schools are full for next year!

I think Betley Primary School has a couple of Reception places left for September, if you can find a property nearby. The school is small and well run.
It’s a fabulous friendly village with a toddler group, a couple of pubs, Football and Cricket clubs, a tearoom, a recently refurbished play park and beautiful countryside walks. I work at Keele and can get into work in 15 minutes from Betley.

Betley is a beautiful village and easy to get to Keele.

He will be going into Year 1. Bentley is one of the schools we are struggling to get a reply from strangely and the rest seem to be full.

Not looking great in terms of schooling. Housing is nearly sorted.

Haslington?

flamingo40 · 25/10/2021 20:55

Not sure how you're getting on with this? I know it's quite an old post.
I'm originally from that area.
Rode Heath is a lovely village just outside alsager. That's where I grew up.
A nice village school, and bus daily to the local high school.
Two village pubs, Chinese and local shop, lovely canal to walk along.
There's also scholar green and church Lawton which are similar a few minutes away.
