Where to buy a house for £1m

Hi all

We are looking to move out of London (in Parsons Green at the moment) and we are struggling to decide where will suit us best. We have a budget of £1m and ideally want 4 bedrooms with a good sized garden for our toddler. We would like somewhere well heeled with excellent schools and a great community of families. My husband and I will be commuting into the city periodically and don’t mind an hour commute. We’ve been looking at Surrey (but don’t know it well so no idea which towns and villages are nice), Henley and Beaconsfield but haven’t so far found anywhere that we feel strongly about. We would like somewhere with a semi rural feel. It’s our first house purchase too so I think we’re feeling nervous about spending so much and putting roots down somewhere. Any guidance appreciated!

I live in Bucks in between Henley and beaconsfield and really love it. Fast train to London Marylebone if you need to and the chilterns on your doorstep! It is an expensive part of the world though.

Thank you! Which villages /towns do you recommend around there? I can see why - It’s very beautiful and the commute is ideal.

40mins train to Paddington. Idyllic village

@cherryblossommorningstoday wow that’s gorgeous! Do you live nearby? Is it a nice place to live?

I'd look on The Modern House website to see what was on in that budget. They target the affluent leaving-London market. Their prices reflect that, but they do have some beautiful properties.

Slightly above budget but a lovely area

Grantham to London is just over an hour by train

I lived in Wantage for a while and it was lovely. The secondary schools are amazing, the head teacher at the closest school was a keynote speaker at a conference I was at a couple of years ago and she is the most inspiring head teacher I've ever met!

One of the villages around didcot. Start with Blewbury/Aston tirrold etc. Go visit Goring/Streatley bit prepare yourself to fall in love and not get as much for your money!

@ParsonsGreen99

I do live nearby lol.

It is lovely. We moved from London and it was my husbands dream more than mine initially but now I can't believe we didn't do it sooner!

It's a 14 min drive to Didcot and 40 mins into Paddington! Once cross rail opens, getting across London from there will be easier than it even is now.

The ridgeway walking path runs through one end of the village, 2 pubs, 2 schools, 2 churches, village shop and walks from that house all around the village and across fields. I really recommend it!

You should definitely consider Sevenoaks or Tunbridge Wells in Kent Smile

Hampshire? West Berks?
