Morning Everyone, we are looking at a move to the Cheltenham and Glos region. (Returning from overseas) and I've been researching for ever but I thought I'd just ask.

Where would you want to move to if you were moving there?

I'd quite like to rent a small cottage in a little village but not sure where to start we have a 3year old so school will be a consideration. As is a nice pub ;-)

I'd go for Sheepscombe - lovely village not far from Painswick. There's a pub and a school surrounded by beautiful countryside.

I live in Gloucester- have a look at Churchdown, it has lovely schools and a nice little pub! Might be a lot cheaper than Cheltenham too! Plus it’s only a 10 min drive to Cheltenham! X

If you want to rent specifically, you could try Miserden - has a preschool and school, village shop and post office, pub etc. Plenty of other villages around too - depends how rural you want to be! Trouble is all the lovely villages are a decent drive in to Cheltenham except maybe Birdlip but beyond the pub and school there's no facilities.

Thanks everyone I will have a look now. I think we will rent for 6-12 months whilst looking to buy something. Bit tricky coming from overseas so easier to rent first I think.

Thanks again

Ohhh any NO GO areas ?? Confused

In the villages? Not really. There's some I'd rule out based on lack of facilities. I love Birdlip but no shop, if getting out of it relies on the A417 I'd avoid, like Cowley or Seven Springs etc as the traffic is terrible.

Painswick has facilities and is beautiful, good access to Stroud as well. Cranham is lovely, not sure there's much there in terms of local shops and you need a decent car if you want out in Winter. Upton St Leonard's is nice, feels villagey but also right on the edge of Glos.

Bisley? That's nice although the junction in the village center is a bit hair raising! Unlike a lot of the villages, it has a children's play park.

Should say, Miserden is privately owned - check here for properties available

However, you don't have to live in the village to use the school etc and plenty of places to live in various levels of rural bliss all around.

The starting point for me would always be where you will be working, and then go from there. There are loads of lovely villages, but its an area where you can end up somewhere thats the wrong side of places for where you want to be. You also have to consider things like the funny motorway junctions in Cheltenham, and the grammar system in Glos/Chelt for later on.
FWIW, one of dhs brothers lives in Churchdown, previously in one of the Gloucester new build estates, the other used to live in Upton St Leonards and both really like those locations. We live just up the M5

I live in longlevens in gloucester. Its lovely! Quiet, nice size houses and gardens, 15 mins to Cheltenham, many rural walks within 10 or 15 minute drive, close to the cotswold villages for days out or browsing antique shops. I moved here from ireland and love it. Cheltenham is also nice to live, but it takes a considerably higher budget. If money was no object I would live in Cheltenham but I do like our location.

Absolutely where you will be working is the key, try looking in the Stroud valleys, Whiteshill, amberley, Nailsworth

Chalford near Stroud. I have family there and it’s community orientated, good primary and secondary. Beautiful wooded valley with gym, cafe, pub, shop, youth group, clubs, parks scattered and no obvious village centre.
