Hi there,
Can anyone tell me about woodhall spa, Horncastle or louth pls. Hubby and I need to relocate to lincs Easter next year. We have a 7 year old who will need a good junior school and a 5 year old that needs a SEN school not too far away. We've narrowed our areas down but wondered what the locals think of those areas?

Woodhall spa is a lovely village. Old fashioned cinema, out door lido. Fairly close to lincoln 25 min drive etc that would be my choice over the three. Louth and horncastle bigger market towns, probably worse with traffic etc.
Where will you/ your oh be working.

Woodhall may be more expensive housing wise, but a great location.
Other two good for access to the coast.

I think both Louth and Horncastle are a bit run down and depressing. Louth especially is miles from anywhere. I used to work in Louth and know Horncastle quite well.

Woodhall Spa is lovely. I have friends who live there with a primary aged dc and they are happy with the school (no idea which one) and there seems to be a lot of activities locally such as football, cricket. Woodhall is a lovely village and it's close enough to Lincoln for better shops, etc.

Hi, I have loved here for 16 years now!
Woodall spa is a lovely posh place might be a bit pricey. It's actually quite far away from me so I can't help much more there.

Now Louth is the higher end of the East Coast and wolds. Lots of the lawyer's round here love there and travel in because of that. It's got a few shops and supermarket. It's a very beautiful village with areas like Huberts Hill to cost and about 30-40 mins from Skegness beach. The housing is pretty affordable but more than the East Coast which has far more poverty. There is a huge parking issue so whatever you do get a place with a driveway!

They have some great schools up there which is good including a Grammar. Erm, just don't go to Monks' Dyke. Yeah

St. Bernard's School caters for additional needs and learning disabilities. It's highly recommended although I have never been.

Horncastle is different entirely. The good parts are that it's on a direct route to Lincoln. Making further education and college choices easier. There are very limited further education facilities in the Skeg to Louth sort of area. Some schools don't even do 6th form! It is a wonderful place and has a big supermarket. Again it's about 45 mins to a beach. The people there can be a bit old and snooty! Itsgot far more young people though which sometimes seem a bit thin on the ground round here. Because it is on the bus route to Lincoln there is some antisocial behaviour at night in the centre which is only fair to mention. Usually drunks.

I think St Lawrence School is the special school in horncastle. They also have independent and Grammars within travel distance. Not sure about the academy schools. But they do have some. Check out Lincolnshire County Council website.

Finally it is worth noting we have some excellent Special schools in Spilsby. People come from all over the UK to place their children there. I think it's the Eresby School? Your going a bit more rual, harder to find local jobs, more travel I guess. But your not far from Boston. That being said there are nice posh areas in Spilsby and I hear good things about their Academy school. It's one of the better Academy down this end. I don't know what special needs your little one has but it's well worth taking a look round that school! Also the house prices are cheaper down this end so that's a bonus!

HornCastle has a grammar school, must be quite good as I know kids from Lincoln who travel there. Louth also has a grammar school.

Kids from Woodhall tend to go to horncastle for secondary school. The secondary modern in horncastle didn't have a good reputation when dd was secondary school age. Not sure if it's improved. It's called Banovallum. There's another secondary school in tattershall I think which some kids from Woodhall would probably go to, not sure what it's like.

One of the biggest things will be where you are working, Lincolnshire is not a pleasant commute, especially in winter.

wishingchair1 · 10/08/2019 16:07

Agree with all the above. It's a big rural county, so work location would make a huge difference.

jojobink78 · 10/08/2019 16:34

Thank you all for your replies. Hubby will be moving about the local hospitals in the area so the location isnt really a problem and hes used to committing 2hrs from Buckingham to the other side of london and the south coast for work daily. He may even just work away during the week and come back at weekends so the location is more important for the kids than him 🤷‍♀️

We're coming back up Oct half term to research some more on the areas and look around some houses and a couple of schools we like the sound of. Our half term is a different week to the ones up there
