Moving from Buckhurst Hill zone 5 to Danbury area

Hi all

We bought a house in Buckhurst Hill (eastern end of the central line) which needs a lot of work. With baby no 2 on the way, we can’t quite face doing the work so considering selling up and moving to a village near Hatfield peveral train station - hubby and I both work in London, he works 5 days a week and I work 3 days. We are worried about having to drive to the station, park, have a station with only 3 trains an hour at peak time (as opposed to every few minutes on the central line). Huge lifestyle changes - but overall would they be better or worse? The commute is the thing that scares us the most! Advice much appreciated x

Should say that the reason we want to move is to get a bigger house. Also, I would ultimately like a more countryside environment. Commute is currently around 45 mins door to door and would probably be 1hr 20 if we moved...

Hi 😊

If you've not moved yet and you need any help, I'm only ten minutes from Danbury.

Here if you need me.

Thank you @Hally2020 - since this post we’ve viewed some gorgeous houses (I’ve fallen in love with one in little baddow) but hubby doesn’t want to leave the ease of commuting here. Getting 2 cars, driving to station (or park and ride from Danbury?) is a whole new ball game. Do you have any advice?xx

Little Baddow is lovely, as is Danbury. Park and ride is about 5-10 minutes away and definitely worth it as Chelmsford is a nightmare for commuter parking (I did it for years). Journey time into London varies from 35 minutes for a straight through train and roughly 45-50 minutes for a normal one. There are usually 3 commuter trains an hour I believe. I wouldn't use Hatfield Perveral as the trains stopping there are far less frequent and parking is limited.
Hope this helps!
Tracy😊

Thanks Tracy that’s super helpful - so from little Baddow would you say it’s better to drive and park at the park and ride (so as to get the more frequent trains from Chelmsford) rather than drive to Hatfield Peverel? Assuming a 10 min drive to the park and ride and time to park there, how long would you allow to actually arrive in Liverpool Street? Luckily me and hubby both work within a 10 min walk of liv street station but I’m just trying to work backwards what time we would need to leave home. This is defo the biggest concern for us as right now we just walk down the road to the tube which comes all the time! However I love the area and have family there so I think the extra space would be lovely for the kids to grow up in!

Hi there
Just to say you’d be better getting grown from Chelmsford as more frequent & as closer up the line from Hatfield Peveral the cost will be slightly cheaper for you too! 😊
Also homeward bound of a night they’ll be more trains stop at Chelmsford. Hatfield Peveral is a tiny station whereas Chelmsford is a major one with it being the County Town of Essex.
Hope that info helps! 😁

Grown = Train!! 🙄

MrsMummyBx · 15/08/2019 14:01

@mc68 thank you that’s really helpful! :-)
