West Wickham

Hi all,

We’re currently looking st places to move to outside of central London with good commutes to London Bridge ideally. We’ve found a house we absolutely love in West Wickham but are worried about transport links. I know there’s the one train line but have been told trains coming from central London back out at night to WW are dodgy. We were told that very often the service tends to be severely delayed/ cancelled after about 9:30pm which would be a big problem for us as we are very sociable. I know we could get trains to surrounding areas and get an Uber back which I wouldn’t mind doing every now and then but to have to do it on a daily basis would be too much for me.

Does anyone have any experience of transport in and out of West Wickham? Would love some advice.

Thank you! X

I think possibly you might get more answers if you repost this in property as West Wickham isn’t exactly rural so,people who know the area aren’t likely to be looking in this section.

I don’t live there anymore but I did live there before I moved in with my OH.

The train station isn’t the best but I have never had problems (or terrible problems) with it at peak times but if you stay out late you could come across some issues.

Croydon isn’t too far away and there are always good train links going through East Croydon station practically all night. There are 2 buses which you can catch from outside East Croydon station into West Wickham. The 119 and the 194. The 119 is a 24 hour bus.

Good luck with the move if you do decide to move there. The high streets has some wonderful places to eat!

I only came on to see what was rural about west Wickham and I can see no trains after 9:30pm. Shocking. ..

Is there any need for comments like that for an honest mistake?

Hi OP.
I travel on the Hayes line late at night most nights (I work in the theatre) and have to say it's pretty reliable.
I'm in Sydenham, not far from WW and it has some excellent schools and near to the countryside.

We are in Hayes! Definitely not rural! The train line can have troubles but then you can get the train to Beckenham, Bromley south, Orpington, east Croydon and the many other train station nearby and uber home!
There are 4 trains per hour until about 9ish I think and then down to 2 per hour.
You'll be much more appreciative of the fact you can still get a seat on the train in the morning!

I mean troubles once every couple of weeks. You can sign
Up
To the Hayes, ww Facebook pages and see how often train problems come up. (Not often!)

I used to get the train from Hayes to Waterloo East when I worked in London, I found the train service very reliable.
I worked shifts at St Thomas', the Sunday service started a bit too late so I'd go from Orpington or East Croydon (which is a much faster journey but I'm a lazy traveller and hated changing at Clapham Junction and usually not getting a sest).
From memory there were 4 trains per hour, 2 to Cannon St and 2 to Charing Cross .

It's the price you pay for suburban living I guess. Have you researched season tickets? Do you particularly want to live in ww?
Have you looked a wee bit further in. Personally suburban living pissed me off and I moved further in to a more diverse community that felt more like London and not Kent. The commute to London bridge 15 minutes. You get a lot less bang for your bucks, as Kirsty would say (yawn) but a nicer atmosphere. Depends what you like.
If you're planning a family ww is great for schools but the commute will be rubbish.
Good luck. Beckenham?

Hi, I dont know if this post will be acceptable or the correct route ?
Iv lived in WW for many years, my family are all now grown up. Im now launching my creative workshop business, Creative@Hart.
I have some jewellery workshops planned, being held at Java& Chai in Hayes this month. Thinking about Christmas gifts etc ?
I wondered if your members would be interested in finding out more ?
I also run tailormade workshops and parties (children and adults) and can create bespoke commissions.
Please let me know if this post is ok. Message me if anyone is interested? Thank you. Maggie Hart
