High speed Internet in the sticks

Just thought I'd let you know that after suffering 5+ years of broadband coming in at a whopping 1mbs due to where we live (rural Scotland), an affordable solution from EE seems to be working.

A 4G router with an external antennae is giving us approx 30mbs. £60pcm for 200GB of data, £100 one off fee for installation.

Very impressed. (I don't work for EE btw)

That's good to hear.

For other people in rural areas, who maybe don't have mobile broadband coverage, it's worth looking into line of sight wireless broadband.

e.g. for us in the Shropshire Hills, Secure Web Services do 20Mb down and 2Mb (and we could go faster if we wanted to pay more) for about £35 a month. No data limits other than the usual fair use clause.

Very interested to hear this - we are just about to move to a rural location. Fibre is in the area, advertised as up to 38mbps, or even 60mbps with some providers. However - now we have come to arrange the move, when you get down to the nitty gritty, our house can only expect to receive 2-6mbps! We will be paying for Fibre, but because they have told us the realistic expectations, we won't be able to complain about the speed 😡 Something to do with us being far from the exchange apparently.

I am hoping that they are quoting 2-6mbps to cover their asses, but am resigned to that not being the case. However - the posts above give me hope that there is an alternative!
