Cost of heating oil

Hi. We have the chance to move into a two bedroom bungalow where the heating and hot water is run on oil.
The landlord has told us that it costs about £250 for 500L of oil.
Does anyone know on average how much oil would be used a year while keeping the house nicely heated and not being tight with it? We have a little one on the way so need the house to be comfortably warm. Thanks

Have a look at boiler juice.com for prices and remember they will vary with the price of oil a bit like petrol. We top up probably 3 x a year but use a lot and have a 4 bed house so you would prob use less xxx

You can get a quote for from Boiler Juice -

This is the cheapest time of the year to buy oil. It goes up considerably during the winter months. Most people tend to buy oil in bulk although it is possible to pay monthly with some companies.

Oil is cheaper if you can buy at least 900 litres in one go. How big is the tank? Ideally > 1000 litres. Prices at lowest about June & highest from September onwards.

It depends on building insulation & what temps you keep things. Also, how much hot water you use (assuming oil is how you heat water, too).
Costs us £700-£800/yr, but that seems to be low compared to most.

If it is any help I have just paid £380 for 1000L. This will last us the year. If you buy it now (I.e in the summer months) it is generally cheaper.

I did not go through boiler juice but rang round for a quote and went with the cheapest.

Boiler juice is good but you have to buy it when everyone does

Thanks everyone

Oil is about 40p a litre or less, you can shop around. So that price is wrong.

What is the insulation in the house? Age of boiler? Epc rating?

Baby doesn't need a tropical house.

I think we average about £400 a year. That's for a three bed semi. Definitely worth keeping an eye on prices though and topping up when they are low even if you still have oil in the tank.

We've had a new heating system out in two years ago and it's def more efficient now.

Hi there...

Have a look at www.fuelz.co.uk it searches a number of suppliers including boilerjuice and others to take the hassle out of searching. If you see a quote you like, you can click through to that supplier directly.

Hope it helps

Up in the Highlands, I've just paid £358 for 750 litres. We use about 1,000 litres a year, but the house was stripped back to bare walls and fitted with insulation, then foil-backed plasterboard over the top and a new heating system installed with thermostats in every room, so it holds its heat extremely well. 3-bed croft house, very exposed location.
