Fencing fencing fencing for the rabbits - do they reside in the garden or come in from the outside!?

If they are outside then you have to rabbit proof the fence by digging down about a foot and secure chicken wire into the ground (we used old horse shoes but big tent pegs will work) and the attach it to the fence.

As for the moles - we've got the blighters too and have no idea how to get rid 'humanely'

canigotobednow thanks for reply, our garden has open wooden fencing to surrounding fields. there is a long hedgerow at the bottom of the garden that looks like a rabbit city with an annexe to the fenced off vegetable garden.
It's not possible to chicken wire the whole garden and the vegetable garden is about 10ft by 20ft and has chicken wire..but obviously the rabbits are burrowing under it.. in the early morning and evening there can be upto 20 rabbits just chowing down and pooping all over the garden!

With that level of rabbit population and no option to fence your only choice is to get someone in to shoot them and deal with the burrows - even at that they're going to struggle if they can't be there every day. If you're really against that your only choice is to fence the veg garden properly (as someone said above by digging down a good bit)

If you collapse rabbit burrows repeatedly they will move . Moles are very difficult. The gas used is a licensed pesticide only available to those with the appropriate licence. Moth balls may have some effect if placed in the runs. Exhaust gases used to be used, although this isn't legal, or very humane.

For the moles you can stick a rag socked with diesel down the holes. It'll move them on. Not sure about the rabbits, sorry.

Soaked not socked!

Same issues here! Next door had a local marksman round to thin out the rabbit population and that has definitely helped. Moles drove me mad last year. We have tried the high-pitched pole thing but it didn't make the slightest difference.

Last autumn, my elderly dad was sick of clearing the molehills so I could mow what was left of the lawn, so he sharpened the garden fork and rammed it hard into each of the hills several times. We have not seen a new molehill since.... (crosses fingers...)
