I'm sure I'm one of the only people in the country cursing the unseasonably warm autumn. Can't wait for it to be cold enough to justify turning the AGA back on! Cooking. Just hasn't been the same without it.

Anyone else in the same frame of mind and how will you decide? If I was made of cash I'd have lit it much sooner but I'm sure it'll be on before November giving out that lovely cosy feel and making tasty stews and curries and jacket pots. Grin

I had a new Aga installed on the hottest day of the Summer this year and have had it on ever since!

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 09/10/2015 19:53

I'll never have one. But I can live vicariously through you....

after I get over the Envy....

PirateSmile · 09/10/2015 19:55

Mine's on already Smile

Snoopadoop · 09/10/2015 19:57

I thought they were always on?! how are you cooking in the summer when it's off?

mateysmum · 09/10/2015 20:03

I'm the same Furbys. Keep saying to DH " Shall we put the AGA on today dearest". But likeFenny we are oil fired and even now with the low oil price, DH tight goes into cardiac arrest every time he thinks about the cost.
But I loves my AGA and can't wait to cook a decent home made pizza again.

I'm in aga hell at the moment. It's not been off all summer as we don't have secondary cooking. The fan packed in on Tue, which switched the aga off on Wed and the earliest they can get someone out is the 20th Sad. We've had 'ping' tea 3 days in a row and I can't stand it any longer.

Plus my downstairs is baltic

FurbysMakeSexNoises · 11/10/2015 01:13

Oh yay! I'd given up and came back and have a load of responses!!

Luckily we have an electric oven and ceramic hob for summer. We aren't on mains gas so it's even more spendy to put on. Also so warm that we need to open the front door so waiting till the room feel regularly cold enough- soon!!

Just ordered a second cold plain shelf for baking and a quiche dish so all ready to go- apart from the dreaded cleaning. Any top tops?

I mean top tips for cleaning the AGA!

Cleaning - I recommend Astonish Oven and cookware Cleaner - buy it from Poundland for the enamel parts and just a damp cloth for the chrome. I try and wipe the top most days before things get hard and it's much easier that way.

I only clean the ovens when it's being serviced or when it goes off for the summer.

exLtEveDallas · 11/10/2015 12:15

... And a glass scraper!

Ours has never looked so clean - it's a huge shiny blue ornament in my kitchen right now Sad

RaphaellaTheSpanishWaterDog · 13/10/2015 19:19

Looking forward to switching ours on too Grin, although as we're currently in the process of turning a reception room into our new kitchen, the Aga will end up in the newly created utility.....boo hoo!

To compensate we've just lit a real fire in the fireplace in the 'kitchen-to-be' which is consequently lovely and toasty!

Flaming0pie · 13/10/2015 19:24

Ours will go on at the end of this month. It's gas and costs a bloody fortune to run but oh the coziness! We have an electric cooker for the warmer months but it's just not the same is it?
