Views of Otford and Eynsford

Hello!

I'm currently living in zone 3 south east London. My husband and I are looking to start a family soon and given budget and need for more space we're thinking of moving to Eynsford or Otford. Curious if anyone has any views of this area?

  • Will the children have much to do?
  • Flooding risk?
  • How far are we to amenities?
  • Are the trains packed at rush hour?

Thanks, any feedback would be most welcome!

Oh! Otford. The place I loved as a child and as an adult. There is a station which takes you into London. You can go from Victoria. In our young days we walked from the station turned up into a passageway of some sort and walked up the Mount as the locals called it. Wonderful view from the top and as children we could picnic and climb trees.

However, the village is lovely. It has a lovely protected pond in the middle with a duck house in the middle. There are the remains of a castle which Henry V111 visited on his way to meet Anne of Cleves. Down the road you will see Pitt Moss which has an ancient frontage and which us children called the haunted house. In fact, I understand the back is modern. There is a river which runs through to Shoreham. It is a very pleasant walk with lovely houses alongside. I have never heard of flooding there. In fact, as a child, my mother lived beside the river and when the thatch roof caught fire "the river saved them". There are pubs which serve food around the pond and some fascinating little shops. There is a very nice looking school in the village. Otford is close to Knole in Sevenoaks with its abundance of deer and history and owned by the National Trust. Not far is Poll Hill, a garden cente which possesses a brilliant butchers known as Cottage Farm butchers, large grocers, clothes, furniture etc. then visit Coolings for a lovely coffee, home made cakes. Shoreham is full of history. Just walk down the high street. It was once a very famous art colony and is the subject of famous paintings. Hope all goes well.

Dear Happydaysarehere

Thanks so much for your message! Exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for (we're actually going to go back and visit some of the places you mention!).

Any other views are most welcome!

Thanks everyone for the feedback! We're hoping to move by the end of the year or early next year. We really love the area and hope it'll be our home for a very long time. We are a little concerned about rail fares, but I guess not much we can do if we want to live somewhere more rural. X
