Abatement

I have turned 60 and can take a Civil Service pension (Classic) from when I was employed in CS in the 1990s. I've since rejoined the CS which means that this pension will be abated.
The only options I can see are to:

  1. Lose all my Classic pension to abatement until I reach state retirement age
  2. Reduce my hours to reduce my income and supplement my salary with the Classic pension (although in reality I can't do this option as it'd mean reduced contributions into my Alpha pension resulting in insufficient pension income when I retire fully)
  3. Leave the CS.
Am there any other options I could consider? Thanks in advance :)

The obvious, but not particularly helpful one, is to get a promotion then go part time to achieve the abatement. This would then see the same contributions going into Alpha.

I would also talk to your trade union rep as I recall seeing something that suggested they were trying to get the abatement rules changed because it only applies to Classic.

Sorry

Thank you. Good to confirm my understanding seems to be correct.
