Nearing retirement and moving to a new area in East Sussex/Surrey

Thinking of moving to a new area in the South East, from Epsom Downs to anywhere between Dorking, Cranleigh, Horsham and beyond. The reason for moving - closer to DH work in Cranleigh, cheaper housing, slower pace of life, lovely countryside, friendlier locals.
However, DH got very sick lately with cancer, had a few trips to A&E, under consultants in Epsom and St George's hospitals, now referred to Marsden cancer centre, which is only 10 minutes away from home.
Are we taking a big risk moving away from the locally accessible healthcare? What is it like in those new areas? Any good hospitals, A&E, cancer centres?
We are in our mid 60-s, and the health is not getting any better.

Royal Surrey hospital In Guilford with an A&E is very good. They also have the Royal Surrey cancer center on the same site. It has just had a massive refurbishment and was on the BBC news recently. You could look at their website.

Hi OP, sorry to hear about your partner - I really hope he recovers well. Cancer is a horrible experience terminal or not. So, we live in Horsham and while it’s a lovely town with friendly people building is happening on every available green space and the local A&E is East Surrey which is 45 minutes away. As an ex NHS commissioner the direction of travel is certainly not to reverse any of those decisions. Good luck with your move

Sorry your partner is ill. I would think carefully about the move. You could live around Guildford and still be seen at the Marsden and Royal Surrey. I know when a relative had major surgery at St George’s - not cancer related - they had people waiting in outlying hospitals for a bed to become free at St George’s and then discharged them back to the local hospital post surgery as soon as they could free up the bed - the only people not discharged were those patients for whom St George’s was their local hospital. I know lots of people who have been treated at the Marsden and who have taken part in clinical trials there. If you are around Wimbledon
/ Sutton, there is also excellent palliative care at St Raphael’s Hospice should he ever need it - I hope not.
