It’s my first day and it feels ever so slightly surreal. Half expect to get a phone call from work asking were I am!
I have such a peaceful feeling knowing I’m truly now only answerable to myself. I no longer ‘have to do xyz or conform’
Thank you for all your congrats and best wishes. I honestly if thought this day would never come!

Congratulations. It is a bit odd at first,as it just kind of feels like you are on annual leave. But then you start to relax,
It's the simple stuff I appreciate like staying up late and not worrying about not getting enough sleep before work.the freedom to be as busy or as quiet as you like. Getting to dictate what I do with my time is priceless

Almost! I’m 57 and would like to work less but my role won’t allow it. I can afford to retire but if I wait 3 more years my pension pot is worth soooo much more so I’m going to stick it out!

Im 61, dropped to part time when I turned 60 and took my NHS pension. Planning to stop completely April 28, and use savings to bridge the gap till 67 when state pension starts. Wish I could go in April next year but still have kids at Uni, so financially not really possible. Can't wait for the day I can hand over and begin the next stage !

@reesewithoutaspoon today I gleefully deleted all my work alarms!!!! It’s finally sunk in I can do, eat, wear etc exactly what I want to do and am beholden to no-one.

I semi-retired late 40's and just did freelance, contract and part-time roles since.
I'd been working since I was 14 and had 25+ years in corporate in good jobs.
I moved to Somerset at 56 - no mortgage, and have good private pensions, not touched. Unfortunately with the change in SP age, I'm having to re-think my plans. I'm not living the life I would love to live atm, but I don't have the stress of working full-time and that has made me so much happier as a person.
I will inherit a bit this year so that will help, but tbh I think it's better to drawdown some money when needed from pension pot to enjoy life while you still can! I'm 61 and my plan is to properly retire and start taking private pension from 62. If a great job turned up part-time and remote I'd probably do it, but those type of jobs are very hard to find atm.

I am a bit jealous of those who retired early. I will be 53 this year and trying to push a few more years; but I don’t feel very motivated. Last job too stressful; this one a bit boring but I need the money so I am grateful,
