Pension sorted. A September holiday booked. Anything else I should consider before I switch off my BENQ board for the last time in July?

Do you have lots of plans - big and small - or are you going to kick back for a while and decide how you want to spend this next stage of your life?

BCBird · 04/04/2024 19:41

Ooh lovely. Hope u have s healthy and happy retirement.

Onemoreterm · 04/04/2024 21:12

I have been told to volunteer for nothing in the first sixth months to a year. In terms of plans in the short term it is to make the most of travel opportunities whilst we still can

I've never heard of a BENQ keyboard BTW!

Onemoreterm · 04/04/2024 22:06

Basically it is a fancy whiteboard. Can use it for PowerPoint, YouTube clips, internet stuff, and then I can annotate whatever I am showing with underlines, notes etc

I'm getting closer to this. My suggestion would be spend time thinking about what's important to you and build it in to your plans. Often it's the little things

BG2015 · 05/04/2024 20:39

So exciting. I'm thinking about retiring in the next 2-3 years, I'm 55.

Just in the process of downsizing so the mortgage is no more. Can't imagine never working.

i have found a job for this week at home. Going to clear out lots of resource paperwork which is sat in three enormous piles. I will scan what I think is useful and recycle the rest. Same with some very old textbooks

BookWorm45 · 08/04/2024 06:45

Sounds a great idea to clear out items from home - sometimes I think this can have the effect of clearing out old thoughts / old patterns and allowing some space for whatever is new in your life.

Onemoreterm · 21/06/2024 18:38

Two weeks to go! Resources at home, at school and on cloud sorted.

Happy retirement!

IsawwhatIsaw · 07/07/2024 10:52

Happy Retirement, how’s it going?

Onemoreterm · 07/07/2024 14:45

Term ended on Friday! I feel relieved. Will pop in for Results Days but that is all.

I need to clear my home office area of tat I no longer need but I love stationery. I have stuff for tutoring if I need/want to do that.

Not sure if it will all sink in until September when term starts without me.

Guess retirement will not hit me until September. Had sad news since ‘retiring’ in that two friends have died one aged 62 and another 56, one was cancer related.

I am now on a health spin which is good for me. So I am really pleased that I made the decision to leave teaching and have time to de-stress and focus on me for a change.

@Onemoreterm congrats on your retirement. Nearly there. I’ve had 2 friends die recently too so I’m trying to work out what’s the earliest I can go.

GOODCAT · 11/08/2024 17:15

Congratulations on your retirement. Do you have any plans for how you will spend your time? Do you intend to have any particular structure to your week?

I am a long while off retirement but very interested in what it looks like and actually feels like.

hattie43 · 11/08/2024 19:13

I know how you feel OP . I'm also retiring in two weeks . My job was being centralised and I had no interest in doing the role so have resigned . I'm
59 and because it's come upon me quickly I haven't had time to really plan anything . My vague / loose ideas are from sept - end of year declutter everywhere , get all the annoying DIY jobs done . Plan / design my garden / land and thoroughly chop back , tidy up , lop trees . Then just enjoy having time to myself .
From next year start sorting property projects , my flat needs decorating and selling , I want to put in a planning app to see if I can build on my land . Alongside this plan some travels whilst I'm fit and healthy .
I feel hugely excited .

Onemoreterm · 04/10/2024 15:17

What a difference having the time makes! My dahlias are still blooming, cosmos popping and zinnias are zinging.

Not a show garden but not far off IMHO.

We even had a cheeky week in Corfu.

Feeling younger and fitter already now I have escaped the constraints of teaching

Wonderful isn't it? Every day I wake up and am astonished and delighted that I don't have to go to work any more, ever.

I do do some hobby-related paid work, but I only do what I'd do for free anyway, or I allocate the £ I get paid to something specific and nice.

Am busy trying to Retire DH, who is younger than me.

BG2015 · 04/10/2024 16:45

I've finally made the decision to retire from teaching next summer. I'll be 56.

Plan to get a part time job doing something.
