Hi.
I retired in 2012, after 47 years in a high stress career, chef.
Loving retirement, and although I'm 72 something is missing.
Got a loving husband of 50 years, amazing family who I really love, so no problems really.
A charity, that I'm passionate about, a local cats shelter has opened a charity shop 5 minutes walk from my house.
I would love to volunteer one or two morning a week, but am finding it really hard to just do it !
I keep doubting myself.
Anyone care to share their experiences of working in a charity shop, and hopefully give me the push to do it
Thank you.😸

Hi gertrudemortimer.
Solidarity to you, it's very hard even though I loved my job,and very stressful.
I worked from 17-61 years, and was so ready to retire.x

Glad it's all worked out for you @Kittenchops

Could I just hijack your thread a moment to ask @DistinguishedSocialCommentator in regard to the volunteering with Age Concern. What you have described is something I would love to do but the only similar volunteering opportunity I've seen on the website for our local Age UK is making phone calls - something I would really hate doing - I think it's much easier to strike up a natural conversation face to face over a cup of tea . Is this something you do yourself ? Could it be area dependent ? Thanks .

Thanks

Not done volunteer work for a while as busy with family and resting and hospital appts for self and my OH

Give them a call - they will be aware of 'befriending services' or will direct you.
By this you visit a lonely person often very old and at times house bound

Give them a call as I said and they may offer you or direct you to something you want to do
Good luck
