ill health retirement

Has anyone any experience of ill health retirement due to a long term health condition.

In the last three years I have had 3 long stretches of ill health absent for 4-5 months at a time due to joint pain (Rheumatoid Arthritis)

Despite having a consultant and many treatments it's just getting too hard to continue.

How do I start looking into this. What are the first steps?
It seems that one of the criteria is that all of the treatment options have been tried but they are high risk and I am already on biologics.

At what point do you decide it's just too hard. I am 52

I retired due to ill- health, aged 50, ten years ago.
Like me, your situation will not likely have come out of the blue and you're absoslutely right to find out how your employer will make reasonable adjustments for you
When I admitted to myself that my days at work were numbered, what I did beforehand was put every spare penny into paying off the mortgage and making sure that I was debt- free. In your situation, I'e advise you to clear as many credit card bills etc as you can while you're still at work and receiving regular wages.

Hey there, I'm really sorry to hear about your struggles with ill health. It sounds like you're going through a tough time. Starting the ill-health retirement process can feel overwhelming, but reaching out to your HR department or a benefits advisor is a good first step. They can guide you through the process and help you understand your options. Hi there, i'm looking into ill health retirement and from what I've read if you feel able to return to work in the future you can't return to the same role. Can anyone clarify further what is meant by that exactly. e.g. If you work as a research technician at a University does that mean you can't work in a research technician role again...? Thanks.
