CITALOPRAM

Yes I agree it stops depression, but we pay a very high price, I I have evidence from several pharmacological journals, which suggest that Citalopram, an SSRI induces apathy and indifference, causes tiredness and is sedating
And so you become indifferent and emotions blunted.
Apathy is defined as diminished motivation and little goal- directed behaviour.
Look up Ssri induced apathy Syndrome, It seems ironic that you may suffer from depression a debilitating mental illness and have no interest in doing things, as a symptom of your depression which can have a myriad of causative factors.
Only to be given a drug which induces indifference and from my experience, total apathy.
However, when you tell your GP, he will say the apathy is from your depression. Lol,( we need a little humour)As well as no libido.
From my time of being on this so-called anti-depressant, I would equate it to a chemical lobotomy. When I cited these evidence based, peer reviewed psychiatric journal articles to my GP her advice, was to tear them up. !

I have no wish to alarm, only expose the truth, I would welcome other people's viewpoints. And if you wish to switch, meds you have to go through a protracted withdrawal of the first drug, before you can start a different medication not knowing what these new side-effects will be.
I believe that an anti- depressant with a dopamine agonist ,does provide some motivation. My humble opinion from my personal experiece.Thanks.for reading.

I'm on 40mg daily and don't do well when it's reduced. It's changed my life and I'm happier and more motivated than ever.

It allows me to live a full productive and social life. I guess it's like every other med - works for some and not for others.

Changed my life too. Went from having a life where everything was awful with many things being more awful, to a life where I am stable, and whilst I still have down moods I know they won't last forever and there will be many happy ones.

Not sure this is in the right section

I don't believe any GP's and 'their special meds'.

It’s a very good antidepressant and some people need medication. There are often side/adjustment effects in the first few weeks of taking any SSRI, but if someone suffers from ongoing “apathy, indifference and tiredness”, then either they are still depressed and may need an increased dose, or a different drug, or they never had clinical depression in the first place. A lot of negative stuff is written about antidepressant medication. It’s true that (like any drug) not everyone gets on with them, but they save millions of lives and give millions of people their quality of life back.
