LGPS vs NHS pension comparison? Any experts?

I’m really struggling to understand pensions as much as I try. I’ve currently been with my local council for 6 years under the LGPS which I hear is a generous career average pension.

In future I’m hoping to join the NHS and obviously the NHS pension scheme.

Which is ‘better’? Can you compare?

If you don’t get a response to to Martin Lewis money forum under pensions and post there. They are soooooo knowledgable.

Its hard to compare which is better.
The LGPS has an accrual rate of 1/49th, the NHS is 1/54th, so the the LGPS has a better accrual rate. However the NHS increases each years accrual based on CPI plus 1.5%, whereas LGPS is just CPI.
They both have the same normal and early retirement ages. The commutation rate for exchange of pension to lump sum is the same 1:12.
Ill health benefits are probably better in the LGPS in terms of enhancement if a serious ill health.
LGPS has better death benefits, 3 times salary whereas NHS is 2 times.

Like I said above, it’s hard to compare the two. They are very similar and very good schemes.
