yes I did! But it was a long time ago and I can't remember the name - sorry : ( if it's any help, I think they advertised in www.ondivorce.co.uk

I did make sure that they had a phone number, so I was able to actually talk to them if I had any queries

IsGraceAvailable · 21/06/2010 13:32

If you haven't got anything complicated to sort out and are both agreed, you can just ring up the court (look in the public service section of the phone book, under Divorce) for a petition. The fee is about £50 I believe.

Be careful, though. I was keen to get the thing finished and arsewipe refused to spend any money on it, so I ended up with a simple divorce ... and years of financial misery. It's not the actual divorce that's complicated, it's the material agreements.

RachelTulips · 21/06/2010 14:34

i used divorce-online.co.uk - partly because i knew they were based in my town (i don't know anyone who works there!). Absolutely no dramas apart from my case chap disappearing (unexpectedly early, apparently) on paternity leave! Is more than a one man band so another person took over my case pretty seamlessly.

Did the job admirably. They have several "packages" to choose from (god doesn't it sound clinical!) but i only needed a basic one as i didn't expect (or get) any dispute (we'd been separated for years, just never got around to it. Was first thing i did when discovered i was pregnant though! )

Chickened out of doing it myself as legal wording is a very precise dark art (and the courts can reject it if wrong). HTH

Brilliant, thank you all so much for your help

Meant to ask how long it took approx?

I am guessing that there is merit to the clinical approach. Friend of mine went for expensive big hitting lawyer as emotional prop and the bill was over 150k !!!!!

MyNextMove · 22/06/2010 08:27

oh my goodness! 150K

Ours is relatively simple i think - no house to sell, maintenance already sorted, child visits in place, he has admitted adultery and knows we will divorce. Am going for the free half hour to solicitors I think, though downloaded leaflets from court web site that say about the "petition" being my first step.

Thanks again all

IsGraceAvailable -was it a very complicated thing to fill out the court forms without legal help?

shimmerysilverglitter · 22/06/2010 10:11

A friend of mine did and he said it was almost too easy, so much so that next time round when his second dw was pi*sing him off when they were on holiday he almost went to the cash point and withdrew £400 for another !

I think as long as everything is straight forward then they are fine.

TDiddy · 22/06/2010 21:46

Initially my friend appointed the famous Raymon Tooth but then I persuaded her not to use him.... 150k was only her fees; he must have racked up similiar. Not as though she got millions from the divorce. The trouble with people using the lawyer as an emotional crutch and trying to fight every little thing.

TDiddy · 22/06/2010 21:48

..."It emerged last week that his client Ingrid Myerson, ex-wife of City fund manager Bryan Myerson, is now entitled to 105% of her husband's assets."....well done Raymond

IsGraceAvailable · 22/06/2010 21:50

No. It was straightforward. Much easier than a tax return or a benefits claim!

IsGraceAvailable · 22/06/2010 21:53

Here you go.
www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/infoabout/divorce/want/forms.htm

VictoriasLittleKnownSecret · 22/06/2010 22:11

I did my own.

Go to the court and get the forms. Petitioning was the hardest bit (knowing if my reasons for unreasonable behaviour were mild enough to get past exH's scrutiny but enough to merit a divorce)

MyNextMove · 22/06/2010 23:15

Got forms being sent from the court. Also having a free half hour session next week with solicitor, though not sure if I will bother if the forms are straightforward. I may come back and ask some more questions when am filling them in if that's ok Grace and Victoria?

Hi everyone. New to the site . I'm desperately seeking honest advice regarding a quick divorce. I've got myself in a pickle . My new partner doesn't know jm still married he just presumed I was divorced and I never had the heart to tell him . Now he's pushing for a marriage and in four weeks. Yikes I'm so scared I can't get a divorce for twelve weeks at least . Does anyone know of quick ways to solve this I've been seperate since 2010

butterfly56 · 17/08/2017 23:26

wikivorce is a good forum for help and advice if you are doing your own paperwork.

Mcp123 · 18/08/2017 01:23

Ok that's good . The stress is making me ill x

Mary1935 · 18/08/2017 07:45

Hi Mcp how long have you been in your current relationship and why the urgency for marriage? I think you need to let him know as it will take at least a few months to get sorted.

Use the online service for divorce. Forms are quite simple to fill out - costs £550. I applied July 2018 and received an email yesterday to say my decree nisi hearing is next month. All being well it'll be done and dusted and forgotten about by Christmas. Please do be aware though that there are long delays at the courts currently. Also, bear in mind that if you use one of these online services, their fees are on top of the £550 you have to pay to the courts. Mine was a straight forward unreasonable behaviour case non-contested by exH (when he eventually got round to sending the forms back that is - hope this helps.

Sorry I re-read my post and it doesn't really make sense. What I meant to say was use the gov.uk online service for divorce. Everything you need is there with good step by step advice.
