Anyone had success online dating admitting being a single parent?

I've tried a few different sites and always ticked the NO box for kids, but I have a DD.

I did this because I was very wary of attracting a paedophile.. sounds OTT but I know this happens.

Now after loads of dates and no luck, I realise I'm wasting my time in a way because I'm tending to meet pretty immature men in their early 30s who definitely can't be bothered to date someone who has a child.

So I've taken the plunge and changed my profile to 'having kids.'

I'm still a bit as to the kind of guy I will attract. I want someone who likes me for me despite/ and not because I have a child. I wouldn't stand in a pub with a sign around my neck in RL saying: 'I'm a mum' so don't see why I should online.

Also I had my DD quite young, and feel I don't like being labelled 'a mum.' I look young for my age and people I don't know are always shocked I have a child. Motherhood hasn't defined me as a person. So I don't feel it's me to be labelled a mumsy person IYSWIM!

But don't get me wrong I love being a mum too.

Has anyone found love online despite saying they have kids and did you attract any weirdos ?

My friend has met a really nice guy online and he has 2 kids as well so it has worked out nicely. They didn't see each other kids for a few months or so to begin with and the kids are not a regular feature of the relationship (currently about 6-8 months I think).

Good luck.

I would be rather as to what else you had lied about if I were a man and found out later that you had lied.

Don't have a family picture as a your photo, but you won't find someone to suit you unless you are yourself, and being a Mum is a part of that (not all of it by any means).

Some guys might not ping you because they think that you wouldn't take on their kids either as you look like you don't have any

Yes, I have 2 DDs and I met my fiancé on a dating site. He has 2 DSs - but they are teenagers and live with their mum. Mine were 11.5 months and 7 when we met.

I was wary about the whole possibility of a guy being a paedo who uses dating sites to get to single mums just to get to their kids. It took me a very long time to fully trust this lovely lovely man who I am marrying, because of this phenomenon which does exist.

Not only that, a month or so before I met him I dated a guy who was very weird with my kids when they met for the first itme. We went to watch fireworks and he picked up my older DD to put her on a wall and then kept patting her knees. And then at the end of the night she had got in the car and closed the door and once I was in my seat, he went around to her side of the car, opened it, and kissed her goodnight - this was the first time they had met. This freaked me out completely and was one of the main reasons why I ended the relationship the next day. Not the only one, but the main one. Basically he had done nothing a loving father wouldn't do - but to kids he had only just met - it just freaked me out, and it made my DD feel uncomfortable too.

I guess you just have to use your judgement.

there is a dating website especially for parents called "parents already" - erm, apparently its really good...

littlestmummystop · 05/04/2010 22:24

Superv1xen,
thanks, but I feel I don't want to just 'meet other parents' I want to meet someone just because of who they are, regardless of whether they have a kid or not..

I hate being lumped with all the other single parents

Even though I realise it could be seen as easier in some ways!

awww, i know what you are saying!!

but parents already is also for people looking to date that don't have a problem with dating people with kids.

I did what you did - I put myself as not having kids, as soon as it progressed from the first chat then I told the guy. One guy was a bit miffed I had lied but once I explained why the majority of men were cool about it. I met my lovely DP online on that site and we have been together for nearly two years
