Sometimes there IS another , reasonable, explanation

I posted about DH's odd behaviour here a few weeks ago and received some great help & support. I just really wanted to let people know that sometimes there is a reasonable explanation for what appears to be dodgy behaviour.

I was finding DH to be withdrawn, non-communicative, moody and of no help at all, particularly after going to his football club, some 2-3 hours drive away. I feel terrible now, but his car was leaking fumes and basically giving him carbon monoxide poisoining (all the symptoms were the same - headaches, nausea, sore throat, dizziness, etc). The car has just been to the garage and they confirmed that it had indeed been leaking fumes into the car. So, rather unsurprisingly, he felt like absolute rubbish by the time he got home and took several days to recover. It has probably been going on for quite some time and getting worse.

DH is going to see his GP and get checked out to make sure there's no long term damage done. Thankfully he does appear to be fit and healthy and back to his normal self.

I am so relieved, but cannot help feeling terribly guilty that I was a total bitch to him when he was really, genuinely, very unwell. I'm also a bit cross that he didn't get himself to the doctor sooner

really glad he's OK! You weren't to know though, that's the last thing I would have thought of TBH

SixtyFootDoll · 16/02/2010 21:50

Gosh you wouldnever think of that happening.

jesus! I didn't even know cars could leak carbon monoxide. Poor bloke! Glad he is ok now.

I know, it is really shocking and of course there was the double danger - not only was he at risk of becoming seriously ill, but also the risk of having an accident while driving in that condition must have been very high.

Last time he went to football, he had a lift from his friend and was absolutely fine when he got back. That was when we started to question what might be the cause of his headaches, etc., as the symptoms always seemed worse after he'd driven a long way.

Bloody scary though and I am just so happy that he's well and that we're ok and back to our normal, happy relationship. That is apart from my nagging him to get an appointment to see his GP of course

D'you know - I once posted a thread with your exact title! Another time, another forum ... but it's why I didn't respond to your other OP, and why I'm (sometimes) the lone, squeaky voice going "has he has a blood test ..."

Glad he went to the doc, finally - and, of course, so glad he's better now. I trust your car's better, too! And thank you loads for posting this
