single and isolated

I am really feeling isolated from the rest of the world. Im on this site and its comforting to find people to share things with.
Im single and have not been in a meaningful relationship for 3or4 years now. My ds is 9yrs and has quite a few problems and this makes socialising and taking part in things quite difficult for him. He doesnt have friends really and though I have a few close friends, they are family orientated and I dont see much of them. I can go 3 days without an adult conversation sometimes and as for going out ...well, who can babysit and how do you find one anyway???
Im a bit fed up and know if I felt more motivated maybe I could find the courage to do something, but how, and what????
Help this bored, sad, single find some joy and fun for herself

it is tough being single definitely. But a good move to come on here!

Has your DS any medical condition that makes things difficult for him? - could you join a group round that? Are there any single parent groups anywhere near that you could hook into. Try the local mumsnet bit on this site to find a local mumsnetter. Go onto the Lone Parents section and post a note asking for meetups locally. Are there any kids DS gets on with at school at all that you could hook up with the mum?

Also there is another site www.netmums.co.uk that has local sections and meet up sections based around that.

Also is there any sport maybe such as curling that you could join a club and meet people - you and son? I know some friends not too far away from you that find curling a good social outlet.

Hopefully someone else will be along with more ideas.

Thanks mumfun
My DS has ADHD and socially is quite difficult. He is on medication and outwith school I lower his dose as I like to think this is better than being on them all the time. He is quite an island to himself really and opts not going into situations that have alot of noise and people involved. He has been assessed for Autistic spectrum and I am going to get these results soon but his school are quite convinced that he has some obvious traits going on.
He can play around other kids (1or2) but doesn't choose to get involved really. He copes at school but seems to need the peace and quiet when he gets home and barely chooses to go out anywhere. Generally things are pretty much dictated by him and what he can cope with and so this leaves me quite stuck at home. We do alot of model building and painting them etc and he always enjoys swimming and any one to one situations, usually with me.

When I get down about it, I start to think about things I'd like to be doing and can't for all sorts of reasons. No babysitter, no childminders available, never go out and meet people and the costs involved make it difficult too. blah!! I sound so pessimistic and it's awful, I'm sorry. I'd love to meet new friends and maybe find a partner but can't work out how I ever will. over the frozen foods in the supermarket or something maybe hahaha!!!
