I haven't yet but have been contemplating selling my jewelry (not wedding or engagement ring just yet) and I have also been contemplating selling my wedding dress.

I would if we really needed to, the dress and jewelry is just sat there doing nothing when it could be turned into money. Luckily we are not quite at that stage just yet.

I bagged up all the gold and valuables that I had and sold them. It hurt for a few days but I had to as they were going to cut my electricity off (another country)...

I also had a few diamonds that my ex bought when in Brazil and we kept as a safe keep. He kept bugging me for them after we separated and I sold them too.

Very badly needed money as he wasn't paying anything after separation and I had three kids to look after. I must admit it was the start of a big downwards slide for me but hey, its only rocks and bits of metal and I would do the same over again if I had to.

Sell the ring on eBay. You won't get what your ex paid for it but you will get a LOT more than Cash Converters will offer you for it.

Good luck. It's only a bunch of minerals.

No, their value is actually completely artificial. The business is controlled by a cartel, which determines the value. I gather the only investment-quality stones are the the truly gigantic flawless ones - the sort of stones that have names, not the sort that turn up in engagement rings.

About 1/4 of retail does sound about right, unfortunately.

No but my xh took my eternity ring, given to me on the birth of my first child to the pawn shop along with my engagement ring, never seen them since.

im thinking of selling my wedding ring and my dead wifes as times are hard, im torn between not doing it for my girls sake so she has something tangable to have later in life, or am i just to sentimental and just get rid of what is just a bit of meatl as her memery in my hart is what matters most???

Alambil · 17/12/2009 20:54

livingafloat, I think I'd keep that for your DD in future

I sold my engagement solitaire on Ebay - got £50 for it; only paid £89 so I was impressed!

tiredoftherain · 17/12/2009 21:42

I've got a platinum and diamond solitaire engagement ring and wedding band which was made for me (not as posh as it sounds!)

Maybe I should have it melted down and made into something else if it's not going to be worth much. Anyone done that?
