arranged during week to have dinner with boyf tomorrow, found out today my sis and parents want me to have dinner with them. annoyed at the short notice and would rather go to boyfs but already getting the guilt-nags from mum. is there a simple answer?

tell them you have already made arrangements......where is the problem? Just tell sis/parents,then leave it.

I agree. I would say "Actually I have already made plans, it would be rude to let my other 'contact' down"

I would be cross at the lack of notice too tbh. My mum taught me that once you have made plans with one person you must never change them just because another offer has come along!!!!

thanks, this is the second double booking this weekend (not normally this in-demand!) and tbh I went the other way for the first one, letting down a new neighbour to attend a best friend's short notice birthday (as I felt bad about not realising it was her bday) - both situations where I think I'd feel a bit bad whichever I chose. My mum's more of the ethos of family first always, then close friends (she advised me on the first situ..), then anyone else. I do agree that I should stick to my own original plans in future though.
