hello

i went for a smear test on friday and the nurse said she could not find my cervix the first time the second time she did. i had some other tests done as i had white discharge. i received a letter yesterday saying that i have thrush and that i need to make an appointment to see a doctor regarding the appearance of the cervix - thats all it said. i rang the doctors and have made an appointment which is not until the week after next. I am just a bit worried what could it be? i have 2 c sections. can't stop thinking about it. any advice? good websites to look at? thank you!!

It's too early for the smear result to come back do don't worry about that.

Sometimes there can be a bit of ectopy (not abnormal) or some cysts on the cervix again which is not necessarily abnormal.

If the surgery ws that worried you would be getting seen ASAP.

Perhaps the nurse doing the smear was not very experienced and just wanted a second opinion---as happened to me.

If you can't wait that longand it is a long time to worryphone on Monday to speak to the nurse and ask her why she asked the GP to see you..

on a semi related topic, sorry to barge in, but is it ok to have a smear when you are pregnant? (suspected, very early days)

No real evidence to say you can't have a smear and have done a few on women who don't know they are pregnant IYKWIM..

Howerver l prefer not to do a smear if pregnant (patient not me ) mainly as if they do miscarry they always blame the smear or smear taker ie me .

If it HAS to be done l leave until 13 weeks have passed.

Hi foxy1, I had this with my last but one smear test, they said I had thrush and that I needed to see my doctor. I went to see my doctor and he said that I had thrush and that he was going to write me a prescription to deal with it.
Crazy! By this time i'd already bought some canesten myself.

Please don't worry about it, it could be something as daft as this.

I was due a smear at the beginning of my first and seconrd pregnancies. I decided to hold off until after the baby was born, still only 3y9m since last smear.
with my first I then had it done at my 6 wk check, though this is not to be entirely recommended and I think I nearly hit the ceiling of the surgery.
The second time I decided to wait a few weeks longer, and the smear test was fine, no pain atall.
I am now due a smear next week, and I am not pregnant!

if you have discharge at time of smear it can sometimes be difficult to check the smear accurately, are you sure it is not this you are being recalled for? worth asking nhs direct if you want advice to put mind at rest...

do they not mean see your gp due to "appearance of the cervix" because of Thrush.? Is that not medical lingo..?.

iir I had a smear test and the results came back fine BUT the receptionist advised me a prescription was waiting for thursh...

Don't worry atm...why not call your gp and ask for clarification OR call for an appointment on the day iykiwm...
(At my gp's to rebook takes 1-2 weeks YET appointments are free on the day iykimw..)

Im sure your gp will not have a problem in clarifying it...
