erm .... get it up when he starts taking them (tonight).

I've said that surely, if they restore his BP to normal levels (rather than stunningly high), he still will.

BTW, I'm not worrying about this, I know there are other ways we can be .... close...., but of course, male pride etc..

Name changed, cos I'm really embarrassed to be asking the question.

Just realised, I haven't asked the question.

Anyone on here know whether he will or not?

BTW the Dr says she doesn't expect him to need the tablets long-term. He's had blood tests etc, and they can't find any chemical or physical reason for the prob.

it depends what the tablets are. some older ones do cause impotence...

FlaminEck · 11/03/2009 13:41

Hi FlaminEck, my dh has also been prescribed blood pressure medication, and he's only 29! Again there is no obvious physical cause, it's just abnormally high. He currently has Lisinopril 10mg and so far the only side effect he has had is a bit of acid indigestion which he has been prescribed medicine for. Definitely no impotence isssues!

I'm sure your dh will be just fine on whatever they're given him but if there are any side effects there are loads of different BP medicines so his GP can give him another one.

Looked up the tablets on the Farlex Dictionary (has loads of medical jargon explained on there):

Adverse effects Idiopathic?eg, rashes, dysgeusia (Unpleasant alteration of taste sensation, often with a metallic taste), BM suppression; class-specific?eg, hypotension, renal impairment, hyperkalemia (high potassium), cough, angioneurotic edema, the latter 2 of which are mediated by small vasoactive substances, eg, bradykinin, substance P, and PG-related factors

Sorry - pressed enter by mistake!
NO mention of loss of libido or erectile function - and those mentioned are rarer side effects

Impotence is listed as a side effect but ramipril is not a medication that I would usually associate with impotence - just remember that the drug compamies legally have to list effects that have occurred whilst people are tkaing the medication - but most people will not experience very many if any at all.

FlaminEck · 11/03/2009 13:54

well that's good news JaceyBee, at least. I have just googled the medication which says "decreased sexual ability" is a rare side effect, which should be reported to the Dr.

TBH I've been soooo woried since his high BP was diagnosed (cos of sudden mystery nosebleeds) 3 weeks ago, that I've not been into sex anyway since.

Maybe I'll give him a few days to let the meds start to work, then turn on my 'womanly wiles' so he can surprise himself.

The Dr said she'd like to see his blood pressure thru the normal day, but getting a monitor from the hospital would mean a 3 to 4 month wait.

So it's cost us £30 to buy one.
