So I started to really this this bloke I was chatting to online. We were talking on MSN just now and someone else suddenly entered the conversation. A woman called "Julie".

As soon as this happened, the bloke left the conversation, seemingly in panic and then sent me another seperate message saying he didn't know what happened there and that msn had messed up etc he said "I don't use msn much, boring people always want to talk" and I think that was aimed at this Julie person.

I sent a message to Julie just saying "Hi", she replied and said "Who are you please". I replied "Just a friend, you?" and she put "same".

I asked if she was one of his contacts, she was. I asked if he'd put her in the conversation, she said she didn't know so I just put "strange" so she added "very"

Is this bloke just pissing us about or what? I know I have no hold over him and I'm not jealous or possessive but why did he panic so much? He went offline altogether a few minutes later saying he was tired.

probably cos he is talking to you both and he messed up and thought he had been caught out and made himself look stupid

StayOutOfTheLight · 25/02/2009 23:40

I think I'm just going to give up on the net dating thing, far too much hassle

i dont think its that much different from dating irl so to speak, there are nobbers all over the place

expatinscotland · 26/02/2009 00:39

Oh, I think it's a lot different from IRL dating.

Lemme tell, the biggest disaster of my life, amidst a series of disasters, was online dating.

By the grace of God it worked out for the better of me, but I'm here to tell you, if darling DH dropped dead tomorrow there's no way in HELL I'd do that online shit again.

No way.

Get off the net and do something in real life or hold fire till you're able to do something in real life.

Fuckin' hell, the hairs on the back of my neck still prick up thinking about that online 'dating' stuff, and I didn't even had kids then!

I agree, I think you're going to meet dodgy types in RL and online.
In my case I've met someone online 10 days ago we've been talking and texting everyday and we're meeting soon, however before this met a bloke in RL that turned out to be a complete and under twunt, luckily I pulled out before we actually entered into a relationship so I had a lucky escape.
IMO the benefits of online is that you can chat to people in the comfort of your own home and get to know them better before you meet them, plus there is a access to more single guys online, obviously all has to be handled with caution. RL scenarios are exciting too, but if it doesn't work out you face the prospect of bumping into this person almost everytime you go out. Or supposing most of your friends are settled and don't want to go out, how are you to meet someone then? However having said all that, if is starts to become off putting - RL or online then thats a sign to take a break and approach the dating scene once your batteries are recharged.
Going back the first post on this thread, I think this guy was tagging you and this OP along and feels like a fool for getting caught out.

solidgoldbullet4myvalentine · 26/02/2009 13:13

It's a bit odd, because why shouldn't the guy be chatting to and dating several women? I knoew there are people mental enough to think that one exchange of emails makes you an exclusive couple, but they are best run away from. The whole point of dating is that you encounter and spend time with lots of diferent people, and don't owe any of them anything until you mutually reach a stage of deciding you want a relationship.

Holly23 · 26/02/2009 13:23

Thats a fair point as well, although I suppose the next question would be, does he do this in real life as well?

sparkyoldbint · 26/02/2009 13:33

Simple, don't use MSN. I've done a lot of online dating and actually met my fiance that way but I've never instant messaged. I think it's hideous and impossible to have a sensible conversation - it's for kids.

Email is much better and phone better than that and if you get any sort of good vibes from that, try and meet the person sooner rather than later. And agree, idiots abound both online and in RL.

aseriouslyblondemoment · 26/02/2009 14:10

anyhow
have you met that bloke today or what?
and did you need to escape thru ladies loo window?
