I'm going to see my solicitor tonight, and I have written a list of all my outgoings and just wondered how much you have left over at the end of each month?

I don't think my ex has any idea how much children cost.. my son starts secondary school in September and his new uniform will cost about over £100, theres the 2 school trips this year that cost £500 between them that I am paying monthly... and I'm not just talking about now but the future as well for them...repairs on the house, (that I am going to be living in for the next 8 years) an L reg car to run...

we canceled our endowment and we both have £6000 from it...

feel free to namechange... I could really do with your input..

I will try to get back on before I go to see the solicitor...

not a lot

good luck

stroppyknickers · 26/01/2009 13:10

We have minus 300 ish if that helps...

chancelloroftheexchequers · 26/01/2009 13:11

Atm we have about £1200 a month left over (til I go onto SMP) which is going into paying off debts.

When I go back to work three days a week it will be more like £200 a month.

motherlovebone · 26/01/2009 13:13

sometimes something, sometimes nothing, but never a vast amount and im not in debt at all.

why dont you and the ex have one quarter of the money each and a quarter for each child (assuming you have two) not really fair to split it 50/50 if childcare bits have to come from you.

does he pay maintenance?

lilac21 · 26/01/2009 22:45

My eldest started year 7 this year, her blazer alone cost £56! Luckily we have a household gross income over £100k, but I spend mine on the kids and he spends his on the bills/house. I am planning to save £500 a month so I can afford to leave him!

MrAndMrsTwit · 27/01/2009 09:30

I'm sure that was helpful to the OP, lilac21!!!!

What a way to kill a thread!

poshwellies · 27/01/2009 10:13

yes,what tact!

mumoverseas · 27/01/2009 10:58

I thought that when I read this a few hours ago but wasn't brave enough to comment then. Do you think she is joking?

compo · 27/01/2009 11:00

nothing

we are overdrawn every month

LoveMyLapTop · 27/01/2009 11:08

never any left over but am trying to change that this year

RumMum · 27/01/2009 12:51

Well, I saw my solicitor and he was helpful, he made me realise that I should be using my net income to work out my outgoings, not my gross and that I needed to put things like pensions on my outgoing lists as well...

exH wants to pay me £300 a month... I can still live so thats ok... Maybe he will move out now!

I'm glad I went, especially as the hour was free... they have a special offer in this solicitors for this month...

Glad it was a useful trip to the solicitor for you RumMum.

mumoverseas · 27/01/2009 13:51

glad your solicitor was helpful, thats good to hear unlike a lot of usual complaints about how rubbish they are
brilliant that it was free too, I'd start a thread in relationships/legal telling people this as so often you see posts from people who can't afford to see a solicitor and that would be so useful to them.

lilac21 · 27/01/2009 18:53

No, I'm not joking, and yes, it was tactless, sorry

MarsLady · 27/01/2009 18:56

I love that term "spare money"

Ivykaty44 · 27/01/2009 18:58

If it is any help there is a budget planner on the martin lewis website - it has lots of outgoings on it that you may not have thought of, so could be useful.

junkcollector · 27/01/2009 22:02

What is this 'spare money' you speak of?

laumiere · 28/01/2009 22:06

We live in London, have 1 son and one on the way, have about £2k coming in and £1600 going out per month (£950 per month on rent), and DH and I split the remainder as spending money (but I have a regular standing order of £250 a month into a slush fund to pay for stuff that comes up and count that as an outgoing).

Should point out we don't have to pay nursery fees for DS though as his disability allowance covers it, otherwise we'd have a lot less!
