If you have had the "implant" as your form of contraception, please tell me about it.

I don't want anymore children and have been looking up more longer lasting methods of contraception. The implant looks like a good one and i like the idea of it lasting up to three years.

Does it hurt though when they insert it in your arm? Has anyone had bad side effects from this? Plus would i have to take regular pregnancy tests if my periods become very irregular?

Any suggestions/experiences would be very helpful. Thank you.

I have one. It's a bit nippy when they insert it, but not too bad. No bad side effects except very irregular to non existent periods. It hurts more when they take it out TBH, however as I went back for a second one, I would reccommend it.

My friend had it and she found that she put on a nearly two stone and she found it uncomfortable. She had it removed after a while and her weight evened out again.
I don't know how this was possible don't know the medical side effects but she was sure it was the implant.

I have it. They give you a local anaesthetic to put it in but it leaves a'track' bruise for a while and you can always feel it under your skin.
I've not had a period since it was put in almost 2 years ago. I'd probably have another implant of doc says sterilisation would have to be done via the 'major op' method (rather than keyhole)
