Social Services

Can anyone tell me if Social Services have to get involved if a woman contacts Women's Aid for advice or help? Would prefer them not to if I can avoid it.

AFAIK women's aid would treat it completely confidentially.

Will check website

cestlavielife · 22/01/2009 16:20

no, it woudl not necessarily be so.

social services might be contacted by police if you report domestic violence to children

BonnieJoon · 22/01/2009 16:26

Checking their website there is nothing specific, but it does say that all calls are treated confidentially.

JollyPirate · 22/01/2009 16:28

No they won't - they only tend to get involved when the police get called repeatedly to a home where DV is a massive problem and the Mum keeps returning or is staying.

You are taking steps to ensure your safety and that of your children - no reason for SS to get involved unless you want them too,

JollyPirate · 22/01/2009 16:28

Only time they might is if you tell them something which gives them cause to be concerned about the immediate safety of the children.

WorriedMum10 · 22/01/2009 16:30

Thanks for the replies. There is no DV or problems like that, it's emotional abuse to me, DC not in any danger.

phone them and ask them!

lessonlearned · 22/01/2009 23:29

What do you think SS might do?
They are only interested in protecting children and they have a massive workload so they would only intervene with your permission unless there was a child at risk, and even then their priority would be to get you any help you might need, not to cause any additional suffering.

lisad123 · 22/01/2009 23:38

no they wont

N1 · 23/01/2009 09:19

SS don't protect children. They steal them. Children in SS care who get hurt and want to go home get further isolated from their parents.

SS don't intervene with your permission, they make offers of help, which if you reject (because you don't want the help on offer) you get taken to court and that's where your and your children really have a bad time.

From what I know about woman's aid, that are not one of the organisations who feed into the snoop network of SS.

N1 · 23/01/2009 09:20

Before I imply that SS are outright in not protecting children, there are some cases where SS involvement is justified. Sadly due to the secrecy laws of court, no one can gather info to generate a true picture.

AnarchyAunt · 23/01/2009 09:28

N1 thats hardly helpful

Womens Aid will not pass information on. They are completely confidential afaik.

Please do call them x

slug · 23/01/2009 09:49

Gosh N1, you really do came across like the Daily Moron incarnate sometimes. Did your ex-wife get Social Services involved when you refuled to support your child?

N1 · 23/01/2009 09:55

I just remembered and it sounds like I am changing my mind, I know. The social worker industry appears to be generally good, with an odd bad apple . In the child protection industry, the opposite seems to be the case. I am sure that the social workers in the child protection believe that they are doing good or being helpful, but my experience of them seems to be more unhelpful.

Sorry, I didn't want to change the topic of this thread, nor start a new one.

lessonlearned · 23/01/2009 10:35

N1 -

lisad123 · 23/01/2009 11:23

love how ss are to blame for decisions that are made by atleast 4 different proffessional groups!! I would guess by that comment you have not been part of a child protection team or in court for a child removal?? Not very helpful. But to the OP no womans aid would not report to ss unless children were being abused but even then you dont have to giive your name

ANamesANameForAThatsTaken · 23/01/2009 11:40

no they don't
