i would really appreciate any comments on this.

what sort of things go on at the meetings? (is it a 'meeting' as such?)

is it just coping strategies (sp?) or does some councelling go into it as well?

anything at all would be helpfull.

I think it varies kerryk. I am a mental health nurse and in our area clients get referred generally to group sessions.

I think they do a general overview, e.g. causes of anger, coping strategies etc. Typically there would be maybe 6 sessions in total. Clients would have a chance to speak to the group facilitator privately if necessary.

One to one sessions are also available I believe.

do you think it would be worthwhile for someone who really needed it to go private?

I have mixed feelings about private tbh. On one hand I work in the NHS. However, I can honestly see the benefits of someone finding a well recommended, experienced therapist and having one to one private treatment.

We have a lot of referrals for anger management. imvho, many of these clients probably aren't helped significantly by a more "general" group session.

However I must stress that this isn't my area of experience and I am sure that there are some excellent groups.

If one of my friends in this area had the money and needed this type of therapy, I would probably recommend they consider paying privately.

You are welcome.

Yes, and imo it is becoming increasingly common (or perhaps people are more open to requesting help)
