Just wondering how reliable the 'pull out method' of contraception is. Dh and I dont like condoms but already have 3 4 and under. Youngest child is 6m and Im still breastfeeding, no periods yet but didnt start till about 7m + w the others. Ive read that the mini pill doesnt stop you ovulating but stops anything implanting which I dont like the idea of BUT we def dnt wana get preg any time soon! Have heard theres a new pill to take when breastfeeding which stops ovulation but its nt at our surgery yet.

DD3 was a result of my belief in the act of withdrawal!!! Did keep a track of ovulation as well. It did work for 6 years though!!!

Husband due in for the chop this month!

Have heard that the coil can be a little painful to have put in, but once in is gr8.

"my sil has 5 dc's all down to the 'pull out method'" sorry, combined with your nickname that made me chuckle, luckykate. Is she 'UnluckyClaire" or something? I'll get my coat...

I got pregnant this way. We used the method successfuly for four years mind. But then it didn't work once. And once is all it takes.

abedelia · 06/01/2009 11:47

Having said all this, both my dcs came along in the first month of trying as did a pregnancy with h several years before that we had to terminate. Now we've been trying for 14 months (minus 4 months out owing to his grubby affair, bastard) with not a sniff of a nappy in sight. How weird is that?

Hmmmm, think Ill consider the cap if its easy to use, uve put me off the injection!

what do you call people who use the withdrawal method?

parents

ba da bing !

stole that off Morningpaper IIRC.

anyhoo, you could use natural family planning, charting temp, cervical mucus and position and abstinence, if taught by a natural family planning teacher it is v. v. effective

withdrawal alone is not enough esp if you don;t want an accident

I'm sure the coil fitting isn't quite as painful as, ooh, say childbirth?

lessonlearned · 07/01/2009 21:54

After years (and years and years) of problems with contraception I discovered the Mirena coil and found perfect bliss!!!
No more heavy periods ( just a little spot for a few days) no more bloating, no more pms, no more babies!
I had one DC when on the mini pill (missed one -thought it would be ok) one dc using condoms AND spermicide! Terrible depression with injection, Migrains with pill - I could go on and on and on and on.......

BitOfFun · 07/01/2009 22:17

I'm a Mirena girl all the way too LL!

HallelujahHeisBorntoMary · 07/01/2009 22:19

My mother had six children (and one miscarriage), by the pullout method!

DBXmum · 08/01/2009 06:22

I have 2 children conceived whilst using the ultra sensible withdrawal method. I'm fervently hoping to concieve one more using the self same tactic

Persona is the thing that really makes me laugh - and I have stroppy DDS aged 9 and 10 to prove it. And I followed their instructions to the letter .....

Flightattendant7 · 08/01/2009 07:19

Have used it quite a lot in the past and not got pregnant those times.
Just luck I suppose.
if you follow FAM as well you should be Ok but it's not 100% really.
