Can I ask why you were?
I just don’t understand him leaving me has made me feel this low. I’m I’m sure it nearly gave me a break down!!!!

Because I was brought up in a household of neglect, an emotionally absent and cruel mother and an alcoholic father who favoured his addiction and didn’t or couldn’t care. I therefore craved for attention and recognition from people who didn’t care and sought out that dynamic and felt comfortable playing it out again and again even though it destroyed me. It was what I was used to. I still hoped that if I could just get the boyfriend to love me then it would heal all the past. It was an impossible situation as I always chose men who were primed to hurt and rejected me. I had an active role in my pain. A good counsellor helped me recognise how I routinely passed on decent men as they didn’t fit the profile of an abuser. In short, I did it to myself and that was bloody hard to accept but over time I managed to change and stop repeating this pattern. You’re at stage one, recognising that these are unfortunate active choices to do with your past. Healthy people don’t do this. They would run a mile.
