Where are women in their thirties meeting serious partners offline?

Where are we meeting partners or potential partners these days?

I absolutely cannot do online. I just can't.
I go salsa dancing but most men there just want a leg over.

Other than that, I don't go out really. I work with all women. I'm 31 and have a young son so a bit limited sometimes.

I find most men 30+ just don't want anything serious these days or they just pretend to...

I'm happy on my own I just don't want to be. I want a family and a partner

Mine was a friend of a friend. (My friends were coupled up
too) We were both in our early 30s. He just wasn't very confident and still lived with his parents which would put a lot of people off, Not me! He's a lovely decent bloke and we've been married a long time now.

Through friends

rushingabout · 02/10/2026 07:51

At work.

My Friend met someone walking her dog in a nice local park. I think early 30’s is very different to late 30’s because by late 30’s realistically some will be divorced, you might meet at school football matches etc.. whereas early 30’s it’s through friend introduction or online. I met my dh online when I was 39 and there’s no way I would have met him otherwise.

I can personally vouch for the fact that a large proportion of men in their 30s are scared stiff of women of the same age. Too much pressure to get married, have kids etc. So they are happily shagging women in their 40s & 50s who don’t have the same concerns. One young man told me quite earnestly that ‘women my age are mental’. I set him straight but I think that’s a widespread attitude

“Mental” is a bit strange comment for sure, but I’m sure there are plenty of men in there 20s, 30s or even 40s who want relationships and intimacy and being part of a couple but don’t want marriage or more importantly children, so they probably do date younger or older

AWeekAndADay · 02/10/2026 09:28

Chose to be single for 10 years bringing my oldest up. Didn't want to do online and kindof fell into it at 35 literally crashed into a guy coming out of Asda and ye never in a million years did I ever think that an instant connection could happen but it did, swapped numbers, chatted for hours later that day, met the next, married 31 days later and just had our 10th wedding anniversary yesterday plus have a much bigger family

BipolarBabe34 · 02/10/2026 09:29

I met mine at work.

A ski trip for me! Though he was also a friend of a friend so might have happened that way. I’m in London and most of us were single in our early 30’s. I have to say I think most of the others met their partners online or through work. Early 40’s and we’re all either in couples or happily single, it did work out!

I find the 'just want a leg over' comment strange - men wanting to have sex doesn't mean they wouldn't want a serious relationship. What makes the two mutually exclusive?

Exactly.

Findingithardnow · 02/10/2026 18:00

Met a couple of partners online dating, very having to sift through a lot of rubbish to find anything decent. But I have a habit of standing my ground! No naughty business 1st date etc. I don't meet for alcoholic drinks 1st date either. I tend have have bash online for an hour or so, every few days. Like its some bad soap opera.
Otherwise, its dating events, (real life 😬) and tney are really good!

Church, my local is a meat market 🤣

RachelGreep87 · 02/10/2026 19:54

If you are serious about it, get over yourself and go on Hinge.
Yes its shit. Yes everyone hates it. That is still how most people meet these days.

Thatsthebottomline · 02/10/2026 19:57

There is another way.

You need to get yourself to a Wetherspoons pub that's nearest to a court, city or county it doesnt matter but it's needs to be as close as possibke.

You want to be there on a Friday night from about 5pm and you want to find the man dressed in a shirt and tie whos celebrating not going to prison.

Now, on the 5th pint of lager, right before he offers to punch the lights of the bloke who got served before him, offer him a cigarette ( all the best men smoke)and make conversation. You might hit the jackpot and find hes been done for GBH shortly before he tells you that hes changed.

Then proceed with all out romancing. Youll be able to have a couple of kids with him inbetween visit to various HMP facilities.

Ding dong

Men who want to be in a relationship and who have the emotional intelligence and maturity to work at a relationship do get snapped up early by similar women.
And are unlikely to become available again until widowed.
Men who mature later may be single in mid-thirties but surely that’s the latest if they actually do want a relationship.
I don’t think these men are keeping thenselves ‘available’ for ‘the one’. They meet nice women early and form relationships.

Bufftailed · 02/10/2026 20:08

Most I know ages 30-60 online, church, playing tennis, in a band together

andfinallyhereweare · 02/10/2026 21:05

Bars and pubs.

GreengrocersApostrophe · 02/10/2026 21:25

Friend of a (female) friend.

Summerhut2025 · 03/10/2026 08:39

Find single friends and go out. And if your married friends aren’t at least making the effort to go out with you at least a few times a year, dump them. They would be asking you to do it if they unexpectedly ended up single!

lilkitten · 03/10/2026 14:42

The two partners I've met post-kids and in my 40s: one through a dating app, the other through friends at a Halloween party

Excited101 · 03/10/2026 14:50

Parkrun! But we’re 20 years apart in age and Mumsnet hates age gap relationships…
he is the best man I’ve ever met though, and a phenomenal dad to boot. I’d never really choose to be with someone so much older than me but here we are, I’m enjoying it while I can- obviously older age brings challenges to everyone.

Lookingdownthebarrell · 03/10/2026 14:56

Can you tell us a bit about what you’ve tried so far? The obvious would be picking up group events in topics of interest which is obvious but your OP and responses are silent on this.

Noodles4Me · 03/10/2026 17:47

I met mine at work. Like you I absolutely refused to do online. Men are hard work anyway but adding another layer of bullshit that online adds was not for me.

Try not to limit thinking like - all men at work are married, or I only work with women etc.

I remember reading something once that said treat meeting men like a funnel, meet many and everywhere and filter them out but also add women to the funnel because women know men - they will have friends, relatives and colleagues who are male who may be a fit for you.

You do have to actively be ready for a relationship but don’t make it your entire personality - I wasted my early 30s being a bit of a desperate slut and wondered why no one stayed. I was still open to meeting someone but was fine with my life without a man and then I met one at work.

Retired65 · 03/10/2026 19:12

I met my husband through a walking group in my thirties. I had another boyfriend at the time, who did not want to commit, to living together or get married.

Catullus5 · 03/10/2026 20:44

Glad to hear pairing up still happens at churches. That's what we did when younger. No taboo about dating other people in the church and much higher expectations of behaviour too, compared to what gets said about the apps.
