Rebound or romance

Posted on behalf of a friend. Come on girls give me your best. I know what I think!

I’ve met a man my sister knows really well and she says he’s lovely. We really like each other, but we’ve been meeting secretly because he’s only just ended an 11-year relationship less than three weeks ago. He said she took it really badly.

He says he’d been deeply unhappy for years and dreaded going home, so emotionally the relationship was over long before he actually ended it.

The problem is that his ex is still living in his house with their family, so nobody can know about us yet and we have to meet away from home. We’ve spent five amazing nights together already and we have three nights in another lovely hotel tomorrow.

His family don’t know about me either and he can’t introduce me because it would look terrible so soon after the breakup.

Also, his Facebook cover photo is still a really lovely couple photograph of him and his ex. He hasn’t changed it.

He says I shouldn’t worry, but I really like him and I’m frightened I might just be a rebound or a fling. What would you think?”

Yeaaaah.

I'd be more worried you're the other woman.

Too soon.
You've only had one side.
Any man who can jump that quick into someone else's arms is someone I'd question. Especially if there's kids involved.
It shows a lack of respect for his ex and his kids.
Go back if and when he's lived separately for a year or so. Then do it.
If those aren't his terms, then avoid for now.

Even if he can turn water into wine, no man is worth the inevitable drama of this situation. I also think immediately jumping into something new is incredibly sleazy. Healthy people take time to process.

He could be telling the truth. I've went from a very long term relationship, into another proper relationship after only a few weeks, for exactly the reasons he described. It was genuine, and amazing for a long time.

Sharing the house is a worry though. If there seems to be a clear risk of it, I'd probably look to get some kind of corroboration.
